"goes and checks big word" - ooh, yay, I love it when people have to learn big words because of me ^_^ or, conversely, when I get to learn big words because of other people. Learning in general makes me happy. For the people who did not look it up but may possibly be interested - ultimogeniture is the opposite of primogeniture. In other words, rather than the firstborn son (or firstborn child) being the heir and inheriting everything (or inheriting most things), the lastborn son (or child) inherits. This system is *much* less commonly known, but is done with the idea that the elder sons/children are old enough to go out and make their own lives, and the youngest will probably be still at home anyway, so is in the best position to keep the hearth and home. |
