Was it a dust like thing that caused the reaction? Yope. Some fine chemicals? Technically I suppose so, but I think the answer to what you're asking is no.

Has the book, at one time, been exposed to a substance to which Gwen is allergic?
Is it important to know how she obtained the book?

So, the 3 distinct times (the "one day" in her home, the time at the cabin, and the second time 2 weeks later in her home) were all times that she picked up and started to read that book, correct?
Her first reaction, in the time of this story, was the first time she picked up the book?
The plot/information/story/etc. of the book is not relevant, correct?
Was she given the book? Did the person(s) who gave her the book know that the book had been exposed to the allergen?

Did she buy the book herself? Relevant where she bought it? If she had bought any other book from the same place, would she have had the same allergic reaction?
