so you were talking with her about religion? or specifically about her parents' religion? or her religion? and you asked what religion her parents were? or you knew this already? and you asked if she had been brought up in the same religion that her parents had? I can see that it might be offensive to imply that someone's parents might not have brought up their child in the religion which they themselves believe to be true and valuable - is this the kind of thing? |

Do their parents both have the same religion? Was she brought up in the religion of (one of) her parents? Did her parents let her decide? Is she baptized? relevant? Would the puzzle work if her parents were buddhists? hindus? Are her parents still alive? relevant? |

Was the question something like: "Hey, wait. You are just telling me about the delicious pork you had yesterday. How come, I thought your family was Jewish?" |

Had her parents been brought up in this religion? Did you ask whether they had? Did her parents convert to the religion for the purpose of bringing her up in it? Did you ask whether they had? Does she have any children herself? Or is she considering having children? Did you ask whether she would (or does) bring up her own children in this religion? |
