What the sender had done was cook the steak?
Would I want to eat this steak (even if I did eat meat)? Had something happened to the steak in the second picture that would make the third picture seem impossible? |

Are the three pictures of one steak: frozen; thawed; cooked? or fresh-from-the-butcher raw; prepared for cooking; cooked?
Was what the sender of the e-mail had done a cooking method? a serving technique? a marinade?
Were both men chefs? cooks? restaurant managers? meat salesmen? inventors? |

how much time it took to go from raw to cooked?
how it looks when cooked? when raw?
something done to it prior to cooking? during cooking? after cooking?
how it tastes after it is cooked?
Did the steak look different, when cooked, to the dead guy than it would have looked if you or I looked at it and assumed it was merely a cooked steak? |

He had a steak, took a picture of it, cooked it then took a picture of the cooked steak? used his machine and it turned back into it's original state. he took a picture of this then sent these in an email to this man who then killed himself?
Do we need to establish why this man killed himself rather than just admitting defeat?
Do we need to establish why the cooked steak needed to be raw once again? |

The man is an inventor who has spent his life trying to build a device that “un-cooks” food. The E-mail is from his hated rival, who has been working on the same project, each desperately wanting to beat the other. The Rival has done it first, and our hero, devastated from losing to his enemy, takes the gun from his desk, and shoots himself in the head.
Thanks to all of you for playing, and the Solid-Gold Silver Star goes to Pandora, for her elegant deathblow. congrats!
I am particularly proud of this puzzle, and had a good time running it, so if you liked it let me know. A bit of trivia, the steaks were originally going to be toast, and the device a "reverse toaster". I thought that was too easy, and that meat would be more complicated, and suggest sinister things to yyour imaginations. anyway thanks for puzzling with me |

Liked it? Are you kidding me? It STUNK!
I am kidding, this was a neat and enjoyable puzzle. The guy who sent the e-mail would have needed to show some proof of time of day or some other way of showing that the steak did indeed go raw-cooked-raw. Otherwise, he could have just taken two pictures of raw steak and one of cooked steak and just put them in an order that would look convincing.
