A dead man is seated at a computer desk. On the screen is an open e-mail with three pictures attached. The text reads “Eureka! I’ve done it!”. Each picture is a close-up of a steak, two featuring a raw steak, and one of a cooked steak. |

Well I'll kick it off... The man is human, I take it? Age matter? Body size matter? Type of clothing matter? Is the computer desk at the man's home? At his place of work? At someone else's home? At another relevant place? Was the man seated at the desk at the moment he died? Moved to that place after he died? Did anyone else witness the man's death? Did the man die suddenly? quickly? slowly? Did he know the sender of the e-mail? When the man read the message, did he know immediately what the "it" in "I've done it" meant? Did the man open the e-mail himself? did someone else open it for him? Does the time of the man's death matter? If the e-mail had been text only and no pictures, would the man still have died? how about if it had only been pictures, no words? Did another unrelated event cause the man's death? If you or I walked in and found the body, would we know just by looking what had caused the man to die? Any weapons near the body? |

These also were posted to the puzzle... By Sam Greene (Pandora) on Monday, March 14, 2005 - 08:15 pm: Relevant how the man died? natural causes? murder? accident? shock? The steaks = beef? pork? lamb? something else? Did the man see the email before he died? Was the email the cause of his death? Was the text the email title? or just stated within the content of the email? Relevant who sent the email? Is the text relevant? Was the dead man the creator of the email? |

Did the man commit suicide? With the nearby weapon? Did the e-mail let the man know that... someone had made a discovery? someone had done something evil? he (the dead man) was in danger? the dead man's family was in danger? Did the sender of the e-mail want only to show the reader that two steaks were raw and one was cooked? Or was he sending another message with some kind of code, possibly a word-picture message (like a rebus, only not Rebus McIntyre the country singer)? |

Did "I've done it!" mean the person had made steaks? Cooked the steaks? Made a special type of steak? Did the pictures look like normal meat close-up? Was it three pictures of three different steaks or the same steak raw and cooked? Was there a significant difference between the two cooked steaks? |

Oh, right. Significant difference between the two raw, then? Was he commiting suicide to avoid a lengthy/painful death? Did the writer of the e-mail know he might commit suicide? Did the writer know he'd be upset? |

Whatever the sender had done; did the reciever want to do it first? Do they work in the same industry? A meat-related one? |

There are three pictures of the same steak - two raw, one cooked? Does the steak look different in the two raw pictures? Is there any significant difference between the pictures themselves? (as opposed to the steaks) Are the two raw pictures copies of the same picture? Do they show the steak at different times? from different angles? in different states or conditions? Were the two raw pictures taken before the cooked picture? Are they photographs of an actual steak? |

Did the dead guy own a copy of "The Raw and the Cooked" on CD by the Fine Young Cannibals? Seriously now, there were three pictures in the e-mail, right? And the same piece of steak appeared in all three? In two of the photos, the piece of steak was raw, and in one of the photos the piece of steak was cooked? Did the dead guy (who I am sure someone will assign a name to before much longer) realize or know that all photos showed the same piece of steak, and not 3 different steaks? Was the dead guy, at any time in his life, attempting to accomplish what had been done as shown by the photos in the e-mail? Had the piece of steak come from a bull/steer? Fish? Wildlife/wild game? A (gulp) human? Something else? |

Another thought: would the e-mail have had the same effect if, instead of steak, the photos had shown a pork chop? chicken breast? catfish? meat from another animal? |

What the sender had done: Did he do it directly to the steak? If so, had it been done already in the first picture? Second? Third? If not, had "it" been done directly to something? Did a time lapse of a minute take place between each photo? An hour? A day? A week? |
