Did LDM commit suicide? Murder? Natural death? Is how LDM died relevant? Is LDM's age relevant? Marmaduke's? Did LDM and Marmaduke die at the same spot? Were the two spots nearby? Within a few feet of each other? Miles? Very far apart? Is this relevant? |

Did LDM commit suicide because he had failed in his attempt to kill Marmaduke? Is this relevant? Did LDM's death directly influence events that led to Marmaduke's death? Did Marmaduke die in exactly the same way that LDM originally intended to? |

Did LDM shoot at Marmaduke while LDM was alive? Did the bullet hit Marmaduke? Was Marmaduke hit by a bullet long after LDM died? did it come from a gun? the same gun that LDM had used? Was the trigger pulled? by a person? LDM? part of a tree? Did Marmaduke eventually die of an injury he sustained in the first shooting? Both these guys are human aren't they? |

I suspected as much, but I have no idea what it is The bullet that killed Marmaduke: did it come out of the gun? through the barrel? quickly? shortly before it hit Marmaduke? Did it travel less than a hundred metres? more? The bullet that missed Marmaduke: it was a different bullet? Is this all happening on Earth? or is the bullet in orbit? |

Are the only relevant objects present the bits of wood and the body of Marmaduke? Is there something else there? |

Ooookay then. So LDM shoots at Marmaduke, misses, and kills himself, and then years later the same bullet finally hits Marmaduke and kills him? Was the bullet in motion through all those years? or did it stop, and then start moving again? was it moving at normal bullet-speed when it hit Marmaduke? |

Did it at least kill him in the usual bullet way? or did he choke on it or something? Anything special about the bullet itself? Made of silver? When it missed initially, did it hit a tree? |

Did the bullet penetrate his body? Has the bullet been static for many years? Did Marmaduke somehow reactivate the bullets motion? Someone else reactivate it? Was it reactivated by some chemical / physical occurrence? |

Did Marmaduke do something to the tree that caused the bullet to suddenly pop out? such as cutting it down? |

Oh ... When LDM tried to shoot Marmaduke, the bullet missed and thudded into an tree trunk. Many years later, Marmaduke went to cut the tree down and struck the bullet with a metal axe/saw and ignited the bullet which fired out of the tree (splinters flying everywhere) and into Marmaduke thus killing him? |

Was he trying to climb the tree and his metal studded boot struck the bullet? Was he boring a hole into the tree? Was the bullet embedded far in the tree i.e. he he have to penetrate the tree? Was Marmaduke really a giant woodpecker in disguise? |

***** SPOILER ***** In 1893 Henry Ziegland jilted his sweetheart, who then committed suicide. Her brother went to take revenge on Ziegland by shooting him. However, the bullet only grazed his head and buried itself in a tree. The brother, who thought he had killed Ziegland, then committed suicide himself. In 1913, Ziegland was cutting down the tree with the bullet in it. He was having a hard time with the job, so used dynamite, and the explosion sent the old bullet through Ziegland's head and killed him. |
