Were they racing? When you say irrelevant that the horse was shot are you really saying the horse is fake? Are there two "he's"? He shot himself because he's crazy? |

No. He shot himself because he's crazy? No. Earlier when I said 'yes' to 'real person?', I meant that he is a real live man, not that this was an actual incident. |

His horse: a horse he owned? and/or had been riding? Was he riding it when he shot it? Was it already dead? Did he intend to shoot it? Did he think he was shooting something else? another horse? Did he need the horse to get somewhere? or to escape from something? and shot himself after realising that this was no longer possible? The horse was incapacitated after he shot it? and this is why it doesn't matter if the shot was lethal? Did he intend to shoot himself? and kill himself? |

Were the horse and its owner in unusual conditions (desert island, snow storm)? Did the man shoot the horse/himself because of an assumption? If so, was the assumption true/false? Did he intend to shoot himself when he was shooting the horse? How long did he intend to shoot the horse/himself before actually doing it? seconds/minutes/hours/days/weeks/months/years? |

Was anyone riding the horse when he shot it? Was it carrying anything? Was it moving? away from him? quickly? Did he know it was his horse? Did the first shot have any other effect besides injuring/killing the horse? If so, is this effect related to the unusual conditions they were in? |

Was the horse under water? On solid ground? Relevant? Was he under water? On solid ground? Relevant? Did the bullet also go through whatever the horse was carrying? Was this his intention? |

Was the object the horse was carrying necessary for his survival? Did he shoot himself to avoid dying some other way? Did he intend to eat the horse after shooting it? but the bullet hit his bottle of water? and he shot himself rather than die of thirst? |

Good thoughts John! Is the location where this happened relevant? In a desert? In a city? On earth? Did his first bullet also hit something other than the horse? Is this relevant? Were there more people around when this happened? Is anyone else involved in the story (other than him and his horse)? |

According to some authorities, Clark Gable's first line on screen was: Water? Do I need it! I've had to shoot my horse. |
