The people he was trying to impress were strangers to him, is that correct? Would he see them again? were they a group of people he would later join? did they all know one another? did they have some common profession? or other relevant characteristic? Was he trying to make this impression in the course of his own profession? |

Well, are any of these people professors? he is a faculty member, but not a professor. (And, lest you worry, I don't think he really got a concussion, but he did bonk himself on the head but good.) postdocs? postgrads? pregrads? the people on whom he wanted to make an impression are almost all undergraduate students other inhabitants of the unreal world? |

Does it matter what piece of laboratory equipment? Was he talking about it when he banged his head on it? "this piece of equipment is completely safe..."? |

Does it matter what piece of laboratory equipment? some characteristics of it are relevant Was he talking about it when he banged his head on it? probably not "this piece of equipment is completely safe..."? no I think you may be operating under a false assumption (which has nothing to do with knowledge of laboratory equipment). |

Is he crouched under something? Like a desk or table? Is the piece of laboratory equipment on the desk or table? Is he under the laboratory equipment in any way? Is he ATTACHED to the laboratory equipment in any way? Is he touching it at all? Is it hot? [not remembering how to bold things in this forum: BOLD!]HI BUZZARD! ET AL! Is he crouched under something? he was indeed under something, in a position that may have been similar to crouching Like a desk or table? see the answer after next Is the piece of laboratory equipment on the desk or table? no Is he under the laboratory equipment in any way? yes indeed - this is a common sort of arrangement in labs like his: the apparatus is supported at about the height of a desk or table, so that people can crouch or crawl underneath to work on the bits on the underside of it. This is what he was doing. Is he ATTACHED to the laboratory equipment in any way? emotionally, perhaps. But not physically. Is he touching it at all? yes Is it hot? not especially - at least, not the parts that he needed to touch [not remembering how to bold things in this forum: BOLD!]HI BUZZARD! ET AL! I'VE MISSED YOU ALL![/fake bold] Hi Sabine! We've missed you too!!! (And bold is backslash-b-curlybrackets) |

Was he repairing the apparatus? the pieces underside of it? probably - the details of what he was doing are not relevant, just that he had to go underneath the machine for something Bunsen burners relevant at all? no |
