Does this hat have a particularly damning anti-Bush message on it? Which could, technically, be seen as libel? And so you won't buy this hat until the Bush Administration is finished (Which will just so happen to be January 2009)?

So is the relevant date January 20, 2009? (Inauguration day for whoever succeeds Bush as President?)

A symbol derived from in part from a flag, but not the US or a state flag, correct? the flag of the President's Seal? the eagle? the arrows? and/or olive branch? the striped shield?

Will you not buy the hat now because you disagree with the message it sends? Does it support? or seem to support Bush? one or more of his policies? Does it seem to attack him? or his policies?

Will you not buy the hat because it would mark you as an American?

Is it a star? stars? stripes? stars and stripes in combination? Red, white, and/or blue?

Bush can't be re-elected again, without a Constitutional amendment, which isn't really possible in only about three years, since it would have to be passed before for the convention and the campaign for it to do him any good.

If Cheney was elected President in 2008, would you still not buy the hat?

*************SPOILER
Washington DC has recently gotten a baseball team, the Nationals. Their caps are a rather nice red, white and blue with a "W" for Washington. But in the capital city itself, a red white and blue W symbolizes Bush more than anything else. So I'll just wait.
