For a person? an animal?

"Diet", meaning the types and/or amounts of food one eats? meaning the things with which one occupies oneself during the day? or something else?

Is the diet strange because of one or more things that it includes? one or more things that it excludes?

Does this diet include anything that is not normally considered to be food? (by, say, the prevailing culture at the time and place of this story)

Diet for a particular individual?
For Male(s) or Female(s) or both?
Was the diet intentional?

Does this puzzle derive from another "joke" with a punchline?

Does this puzzle derive from another "joke" with a punchline? yes, of course :) That is what Friday afternoon puzzles are for.

Someone ate something strange? well, this is a joke, so in fact no one ate anything strange. But for the purposes of the puzzle, someone did indeed eat something strange. If that makes sense. once? more than once? regularly? this one, subject to above caveats
Was the eater human? this one other animal?

And welcome to the LTPF - I am not sure if we have met before :)

Does that mean that someone ate something which may or may not be strange depending on which meaning is assigned to some ambiguous word? (If that makes sense...)
or is it just that this didn't really happen?

And welcome to the LTPF - I am not sure if we have met before
I guess not. Hi. :)

Does that mean that someone ate something which may or may not be strange depending on which meaning is assigned to some ambiguous word? (If that makes sense...) it makes perfect sense, and is an entirely accurate summary :)
or is it just that this didn't really happen? it did not really happen, no.

Is it relevant where this is happening?
Would it help to know more about the person who is eating?

Would it help to know more about the person who is eating? indeed it would

Is anything else about her that I didn't mention relevant?
Is she clever? wise? silly? careless?
Her occupation: manual labour? office? retail? management? military?
What about her name is relevant: spelling? pronunciation? length? a double meaning?

Is anything else about her that I didn't mention relevant? I do not think so
Is she clever? wise? silly? careless? she, like every other human being, was all of those things at one time or another
Her occupation: manual labour? office? retail? management? military? none of those
What about her name is relevant: spelling? pronunciation? length? a double meaning? none of those either - it is just a question of identification

Is she famous? Does she share a name with a famous person (other than herself)?
Her occupation: politics? entertainment? sport?
Did she eat her words? or her hat?

Is she famous? yes Does she share a name with a famous person (other than herself)? I am not quite sure what this means, but she is famous in her own right
Her occupation: politics? entertainment? this one sport?
Did she eat her words? or her hat? neither, but good thinking :)
