Well, "kami" is a Japanese word for the Divine power in the Shinto religion. "Viriditas" is a pseudo-Latin word for the "green force" of Nature. I mention this only in case it helps other people identify this author, because I don't have a clue 
Unless, of course, it was Kim Stanley Robinson, but he's not exactly an icon. |

Unless, of course, it was Kim Stanley Robinson, but he's not exactly an icon. That's the one. Maybe not the author then, but the book most certainly is an icon. If you Google Kami Viriditas you find Kim Stanley Robinson's book as the first hit (after this puzzle). |

oops, I missed I had wrote that. Before that point, Kim Stanly Robinson had not been "discovered" by the forum, so at that point Mars was relevent. However, now that we have ascertained that the prophecy comes from the Mars trilogy, Mars is no longer relevent. Sorry for any confusion. |

Does the prediction have to do with... overpopulation? Landing on Mars? Colonization of Mars? Politics? Economics? Science? The nature of human beings? The nature of something else that can have a nature? The Micheal Jackson trial? Other?

Ok fine. I'll bump this one along. Is the prediction from Red Mars? Green Mars? Blue Mars? Other Mars? well to be honest, I've only read Red Mars. It may or may not be relevent in any of the other ones...
Does one have to go read the book to figure out what this prediction is? possibly to find the connection, but it is probably possible to do without reading it. And even if you do, it is possible to miss. Plus, your questions below have given this a good kick in the right direction and from them it is definitely possible to find it without reading the book.

In Kim Stanley Robinson's book Red Mars, Part 5, a 'treatment' that prolongs life is developed. This, as his character Frank points out, will be particularly devestating to the Earth's social economy, as if it were publicised it would cause widespread clamour, almost a Gold Rush, as people move in to try and sell this drug for Eternal Youth.
However, I bet he never thought of Google. Until recently, if you typed in Eternal Youth into our beloved Search Engine, you would see "Eternal Youth, Huge selection, Low prices!" I reckon he'd be more amused than worried... |
