Was he shocked by something, even if it didn't kill him? Was he killed by the man sitting next to him? If I took the time to make a list of common deaths, would his style of death be on it? (My lazy way of getting out of making a list :))

Was he shocked by something yes, even if it didn't kill him? rephrase
Was he killed by the man sitting next to him? no
If I took the time to make a list of common deaths, would his style of death be on it? I don't know. This isn't something that happens every day, if that's what you mean.

Did the fact that the bomb went off shock him? Did his surprise indirectly cause his death?

Was the bomb thrown at or towards the man? like a grenade?
Did the man pick it up thinking it was something else?
Did he die from burns caused by the explosion?

Severe burns can cause medical shock, i.e. serious loss of body fluids to the vital organs. Is this the cause of death?
Did he have a weak heart? Or a combination of the two?
Did he have various physiological conditions which, put together, made him more susceptible to the situation than most other people?

OK, so he had a weak heart. He sustained burns - third degree or superficial? Which part of his body was burnt - face? limbs? trunk?
Did this event actually happen or is it FYOI?
Location - outdoors? indoors?

On second thought I don't think "third degree burns" is exactly the right term. Definitely not superficial though

Did he look at his body after the explosion, see the burns and faint at the sight?
Was the bomb actually a firework? (You can tell I'm clutching at straws here!)
