hmm.. 'probably' isn't the best word, rephrase that as:

Blessing = God's will? a nice surprise?

Blessing = relief? i.e. the appearance of this person came as a relief to another person/group of people?

Is the recent death of the Pope relevant? The marriage of Charles and Camilla? (or Chaz and Millie as I believe they are known in Australia!)

Does the title "Not in the Band" give us a clue? A bandleader perhaps? Glenn Miller?
Or might this person be a songwriter? Irving Berlin? Cole Porter? Someone more recent?

Does the title "Not in the Band" give us a clue? not an obvious one, but yes... Though I wouldn't suggest taking that path unless you really wanted to, it makes for a much harder puzzle. A bandleader perhaps? no Glenn Miller?
Or might this person be a songwriter? noish, but OTRT Irving Berlin? Cole Porter? Someone more recent? no
