A man left his home one evening to attend a formal event. When he returned there was a large red stain on his suit.

Did he only notice the stain when he got home? Did he notice it at all? Did the staining occur at the dinner party? On the way there? Home? Relevent what the event was?
Disappearing, reappearing ink, by any chance?

Where was the stain, on the jacket? Trousers? Shirt?
Did he wear the jacket all along the event? Or left it in a cloakroom? On a chair? Elsewhere?
Nobody had noticed the stain before him? If so, during the event or after it?

The stain was on his shirt: on which part? Back? Front? Right/left sleeve? Collar? Relevant all this?
Colour of the shirt and of the suit relevant?
Was he wearing the shirt when the staining occur?
If he had not left the jacket in the cloakroom, would the jacket have been stained instead of the shirt?
BTW, was the stain a real stain caused by some external material, or was it a simple change in the shirt colour (e.g. caused by sweat?)
The event: was it a party? a concert? a fashion show? a sport event? a theater play?

Is there also a stain on the inside of the jacket? If yes, did it transfer from the jacket to the shirt or vice versa?

Ok, i'll try a short recap to make things clearer (above all to me :)):
A man goes to an indoor sport event. He wears a suit (i.e. jacket + trousers + shirt + eventually tie, right?). When he gets there he leaves the jacket in the cloakroom. During the event his shirt gets red-stained on the back. Nobody notices it until he himself discovers it once he is home.
Right, so far?
Now some more questions:
Do other people not notice the red stain because the shirt is itself red?
You said that if he was wearing the jacket, the jacket would anyway not get stained, did i understand correctly? If so, either the stain got on the shirt from inside (i.e. from the man's body) or i am doing a FA here...
Is it relevant which is exactly the sport event?
He is taking part of the event as audience? as a player? Coach? Referee? Journalist? Other?
What about illumination in the place where the event takes place? Is it dark? or rather bright?

Right, so far? except as noted
Now some more questions:

You said that if he was wearing the jacket, the jacket would anyway not get stained, probably not did i understand correctly? If so, either the stain got on the shirt from inside (i.e. from the man's body) or i am doing a FA here... not exactly correct but OTRT

Is the suit, then, his player's uniform? and the jacket just a plain ordinary protection-from-the-weather jacket?

To follow Barbara's question, up to now we have a jacket left in the cloakroom and a shirt which get stained. Any further relevant clothes involved? In particular, some clothes he puts on his shirt during the game?
I suppose that if he's a player and nobody notices the stain, probably some other clothes cover it, is that right?
The sport: balls involved? Tennis, baseball, basket, football, volley, hockey?
Is the cause of the staining directly connected with the game?
Material of the clothes relevant?
Color of the stained shirt: red?
blue? black? white? green? yellow?
