is the person too old to use it? does he no longer have some skill that younger people would have?

does he say he can't use it only because he hasn't had enough practice with it?

i can't use it...but i can teach it?

is the person too old to use it? No does he no longer have some skill that younger people would have? No, that's not that

does he say he can't use it only because he hasn't had enough practice with it? Yope. Actually he has no practice at all, but that's not the only reason

i can't use it...but i can teach it? Yesish, but may strongly mislead...

does he lack some physical ability nessesary to use it? some mental one? if so an ability most people have? only a few?

you said it was related to a sport? on played in cold weather/snow? one played outdoors? one with offical rules, or one that younger kids may play without rules?

or is it not a sport? lets try a random idea; how about a playstation II game and his playsation is broke :)

does he lack some physical ability nessesary to use it? Yesish some mental one? No if so an ability most people have? Yes only a few?

you said it was related to a sport? Yes on played in cold weather/snow? No one played outdoors? Mainly, but indoor version exists one with offical rules This or one that younger kids may play without rules? Kids mainly deal with the "recreation" side of it

or is it not a sport? It is not directly a sport, it can be related to a sport lets try a random idea; how about a playstation II game and his playsation is broke :) Nice try, but no :)

Professor MacCorkle yesish-ly lacks some physical ability to use whatever it is. His age is sort of relevant.

Is this ability:
flexibility?
agility?
stamina?
speed?
balance?
co-ordination?
strength?
visiual acuity?
hearing?
another physical charateristic that tends to decline with age?

sorry didn't relize you answered my questions :)

did he lack a sense? possess the sense but to a lesser extent?

is age a factor in this?

is he unable to use an item required for the sport?

does he lack the phyisical power because of an injury? because he was born this way? is it relevent why?

Barbara:

Is this ability:

agility?
stamina?
speed?
balance? This is the closest, but probably a FA is around here...
co-ordination?

visiual acuity?
hearing?

Sollen:

sorry didn't relize you answered my questions :)

That's ok :)

did he lack a sense? possess the sense but to a lesser extent? No, none of this

is age a factor in this? It could be, but not necessarily

is he unable to use an item required for the sport? Exactly!

does he lack the phyisical power because of an injury? FA here... because he was born this way? is it relevent why?

is the item meant to be used only by a woman?

is it for a right-handed person and he is left-handed?

Does Professor MacCorkle know that he can't use it because he is utterly uninterested in even trying it? Is it a skateboard? rollerblades?

Does Professor MacCorkle know that he can't use it because he is utterly uninterested in even trying it? No, the reason is another, and it's the real issue of the puzzle... Is it a skateboard? rollerblades? No, but on the very right track...

He can't ride a bicycle because he is under the age of 16 and doesn't have a helmet? Is not skilled enough to ride a bike? Has no feet?

So... this person can't ride a bicycle because the parents never forced him/her to learn how to use one. But in theory, this person could learn how to ride a bike now if they really wanted to or at least had the confidence necessary to try their hand at those balance deathtraps. Am I missing something? Or do we have to figure out the name/species of the non-biker?

Am I missing something? ... but you are missing the connection to the first part of the sentence, "I know how it works".
Or do we have to figure out the name/species of the non-biker? Not the name, but the category could help (and actually I told you his job, which IS relevant... big hint here :) )

Is Professor MacCorkle a physics professor? So he understands the way that a bicycle works, and could teach the theory of it, but since he never learned to ride one, he knows he can't use it?

Either that or he's a Professor of Mechanical Engineering, and may in fact have built a bicycle... and he could teach the theory and how to build it, but can't ride one himself?

As exact as a ******************** SPOILER! ************************
I heard the story from one of my professor at the university, he told us about another professor, whose collegues asked him if he wanted to join them in a small bicycle ride, and his answer was "Oh no, I know perfectly how a bicycle works, and it's so complicated
(actually the physics behind a bicycle IS very complicated) that I'm sure I cannot use it!!! :)
Good job everybody, I hope you enjoyed the puzzle!
