Let me figure out this title, first. Okay, let's see.... ordinary = usual Northumbria = I don't remember... Probably one of them Anglo-Saxon countries spoke-shaver = ???? I think a spokeshave is some kind of drawknife type thing, correct me if I'm wrong.... cockerel = young male chicken? So the usual ancient Anglo-Saxon country "resident" spokeshaver user's young male chicken? Or is my memory faulty? |

Is the title relevant at all? If yes, is the relevance too oblique for us ordinary mortals to work out? They=Human? 2,3,....999, 1000? relevant? Improvements to "their" home? "They" carried out the improvements? |

Are we talking about a family? Is it relevant whose home was improved? eg their neighbours'? Is it relevant who carried out the improvements? Is the "home" a house? Where people live? Do "they" own a DIY store? Or otherwise supply home improvement materials? |

Several houses then. How many? (ltpflpi) Were improvements made to some houses? or did some people move into different and better houses? Did "they" receive money? something else of value? avoid losing money? something else of value? spend less than they would have otherwise? did something they owned increase in value? |

I need to sort this out..: "They" (consisting of one or more of the households in this street) received money from someone. Right? From other neighbours? From the government or the municipality? From some kind of organization? From some kind of business enterprise? Were anyone employed or hired by the body giving he money? Money was given before any actual improvement/redecoration took place, right? Were the receivers supposed to spend the money on the redecoration? Did improvements actually take place? Relevant? Were "they" enriched in any other way than just receiving the money? |

Did this family plan at all to refurbish their house? (and is "refurbish" the right word here?) Did they take any steps towards home improvement? Did they just let it appear as if they were going to improve their home? Relevant what exactly the improvement was? Did they receive the money from someone? Did they find it? Did they sell something? |

property values relevant? did the steps taken by neighbors directly lead to this family getting money? was money in the form of cash? did the improvements doe by neighbors involve the insides of their homes? the external surfaces of the houses? the lawns/gardens? could it be any of these? |
