I arrived in the middle of the conversation and all I got out of it were insults.

Is this conversation spoken? Written? Relevant?
Were the things said actually meant as insults? Did you misunderstand because you hadn't heard everything? Were the people simply listing insults?
Were two people talking? three? more? (insert numbers 4-infinity)

Were the people simply listing insults? No.
Were two people talking? three? more? (insert numbers 4-infinity) Two.

You have no chance to survive. Make your time.
Ha ha ha ha...

Were they rehearsing something? Quoting a movie? Quoting a play? Monty Python? Shakespeare?

Were the insults directed at you? Directed at anybody? A play on words that could be misinterpreted?

Anybody ever listen to a couple of pole vaulters talking about their technique? It's the most dirty conversation you can imagine that's still technically clean and innocent.

Was one thing said by each person, that you heard? More than one thing?
It's relevant that it was spoken...is this because they said something that could mean two different things depending on how it's spelled? Different languages relevant?

"Anybody ever listen to a couple of pole vaulters talking about their technique? It's the most dirty conversation you can imagine that's still technically clean and innocent."
I was once discussing technique with a fellow strings player. Something about position work and g-strings and being sure to stick your dampit in your f-hole. For some reason we got the strangest looks from people nearby...

Do the insults have anything to do with your name? (your name is some kind of insult)

Do the insults have double meanings? So do the words have more than one meaning, one being an insult (f.e. bitch is also a female dog)?

The insults weren't meant as insults, did 'conversation' people knew they were insulting you?

Are the insults directed to you as a woman? or to a fictional man? Gender relevant?

Where they talking about you? or something totally different?

Did they speak the same language?

Did they know you came into the middle of the conversation?

Did the conversation people even know that you were there? or they knew you were there, but they didn't realize that you could hear them?

Yes and No to were they talking about you:
were they talking about a group that you belong to, but not you personally? If yes, were they aware that you belong to that group?
Were they talking about a characteristic that you have, but no tabout you personally? If yes, were they aware that you have this characteristic?

This one is rather yope. "Yes and NO!" that is.
or they knew you were there, but they didn't realize that you could hear them?
And this one's a "no".

Yes and No to were they talking about you:
were they talking about a group that you belong to, but not you personally? If yes, were they aware that you belong to that group?
No to both.
Were they talking about a characteristic that you have, but not about you personally? If yes, were they aware that you have this characteristic?
And no to both here as well.

Still a big FA going on. It would do good to find it.

The FA: that the statements were insults?

is this true?: They were not insulting you, but rather you interpreted the statements they made as insults.

did they think you were someone else?

Since this is moving a bit slowly, I'll tell you that the FA has to do with the number of people involved.

Is a mobile phone relevent? Could you only see one person, and was s/he insulting someone down the line, and you mistook it to be directed at you?

Is the FA the assumption that the conversation was taking place between two (or more) people?

Was the person talking into the mobile phone not connected to anyone at the other end i.e. talking to himself?

More the "more". Only two people included in the whole conversation. That means the conversation that was going on before I joined in, as well as afterwards.

Was the person talking into the mobile phone not connected to anyone at the other end i.e. talking to himself?
Nope. I was indeed talking to another person.

So you were one of the people on the phone?
Did the person at the other end of the connection answer the phone while they were yelling insults at someone physicaly present at their location?

They were directed at me, and not meant as insults, so no.
