Relevant how many fingers she has?

This allows(ish) her to avoid something...a specific form of social interaction? She doesn't like having her hand kissed? She doesn't get manicures? She doesn't have to play golf? Go bowling? Dancing? Play cat's cradle? Tie her own shoes/wear shoes with laces?

Is etiquette relevant? Would the social ineteraction be with men? With women? Either?

Is she just lacking digits? (as in amputated fingers, leaving behind stumps)
Or are two melded together?
Or is her hand composed of just those many digits? And so configured differently, like an ape's is? Similiar to an ape?

********* SPOILER ***************
Our heroine escaped police custody because her deformed hands slid easilty out of handcuffs. This comes from a talk I once heard by a disabled man who said he could do this

Hehe. It doesn't take much to get out of handcuffs, does it? I have a thumb that's slightly smaller than the other and the joint is a little goofy (a result of California spraying for bugs when I was in the womb) and I can slip in and out of cuffs and those amusement park bracelets. It's easier than dislocating the thumb anyway....
