Was it ever full? Or never filled in the first place?

Was it ever full? it has been full in the past Or never filled in the first place? and it has been filled in the past. On this occasion, however...

Had the contents leaked, dribbled, spilled, fallen, exploded, or just plain vanished (inexplicably)?

I just had an ostensibly free lunch today. I am sure some sort of karmic drain is in store

is it a physical container? did it previously contain a liquid, solid, or gas? are its dimensions relevant? the material it's made of?

Will it ever be full again?

Is it an animal?

Had the contents leaked, dribbled, spilled, fallen, exploded, or just plain vanished (inexplicably)? there may be a false assumption here, which may be my fault. To clarify: there is a "thing" that is "inexplicably empty" on a particular occasion, but its "contents" cannot be said to have done any of the things to which you allude.

By dryman (Dryman) on Friday, September 23, 2005 - 12:07 am:

I just had an ostensibly free lunch today. I am sure some sort of karmic drain is in store I believe they call it a stomach pump

is it a physical container? no, and therefore... did it previously contain a liquid, solid, or gas? are its dimensions relevant? the material it's made of? ...not applicable

By Tony (E20) on Friday, September 23, 2005 - 12:49 am:

Will it ever be full again? perhaps, but this may mislead - suffice to say that it will certainly be non-empty again

Is it an animal? no

Is it some kind of document?

Is it some kind of document? no... with a weary and wandering sigh that sounded like "ish", but the others declared it was only a breeze that went by

Is it a non-tangible thing, which is tangibly identified by a document? (oh, like, say, a bank account?)

Is it an empty set? An empty mind? An empty promise?

is it non-physical? or just a non-container?
did a person/people cause it to become empty?
relevant how long it has been empty?

Is it a non-tangible thing, which is tangibly identified by a document? (oh, like, say, a bank account?) it is, strictly, a tangible thing, but it would not be thought of as such or perceived as such by its user

By Mosquito (Mosquito) on Friday, September 23, 2005 - 10:15 am:

Is it an empty set? An empty mind? An empty promise? it is none of those, sorry

By Lewis Zeiters (Lzeiters) on Friday, September 23, 2005 - 12:46 pm:

an empty stomach? no

An empty threat? no, but good ideas all :)

By dryman (Dryman) on Friday, September 23, 2005 - 02:48 pm:

is it non-physical? see above or just a non-container? it might well be thought of as a "container", though this is not the term one would first use to describe it
did a person/people cause it to become empty? yes, though this will mislead
relevant how long it has been empty? yes - at the time of the puzzle, it had been empty for roughly two hours

Is it a "virtual container"? Eg an e-mail inbox? answering machine chip? Mobile phone inbox? Computer file? Disk or drive? Instant message screen?

Did you have reason to expect it to be non-empty? Did you have reason to expect that there would be an explanation for the emptiness?

You expected trillions of pounds to be transferred from Nigeria into your bank account?
You were told that you'd one the European lottery?

Well, tough, I've been told that as well, and I'm expecting the funds any day now.... :O

Ooopsy - just read Mosquito's entry.... Not to worry. This forum has been short of weightless poetry recently, so allow me to introduce a competition for the longest word ever used in a limerick. The entry you have to beat is:

A mosquito was heard to complain
"Those chemists have poisoned my brain!
The cause of my sorrow
Is paradicholoro-
triphenyldifluoroethane."

There once was a fellow called Giles
Who was fond of wheezes and wiles
He said "The above word
Is plainly absurd"
And offered his own .... smiles
