Is everybody who goes to the suth building for the purpose Kenneth goes there subject to the same time limit?

Sometimes he gets change at the south building; does how much change he gets vary according to how much he exceeds the time limit by? If he completes his business under the time limit, does he only spend one dollar at the south building?

Is the time limit in force at the north building as well, but he knows that he won't exceed it there?

Wild guesses: Internet access? coin-operated car wash?

Is he buying time on some sort of equipment? or machine?

If yes, is the difference between the north building and the south building the quality of the equipment?

Does he go to check his e-mail, or something similar, that should only take a couple of minutes?

Is the speed of the connection relevant? the speed of the computers? (South building has older, slower computers?) the comfort of the chairs relevant?

Are there games on the south building computers?
on the north computers?

Does he chat and play games in the south, but only checks mail in the north?

Does he require some sort of assistance if he goes to the South building that he doesn't require if he goes to the north one? (He has difficulty typing, say, and the north building has Voice Rec software, but the south building doesn't, so someone has to type in his replies, which takes longer?)

Different versions of the same programs? Different programs that serve the same function? Windows/Mac/Unix relevant?

Hrm. Does he have different methods for accessing his e-mail depending on which building he's in? Does he have a stable account or client in one building, like say Outlook? But in the other building he has to use the website access in order to get to his e-mail? So he has to spend extra time typing in the web address and then remember/type in the rather long username and password?

Does it sometimes take him longer to get his e-mail at the south building becuase he's less adept with the program in use there?
because the program is less efficient in general?

do spam filters enter into the situation at all? (I have filters set up on Eudora, and I can dump sometimes three-quarters of my mail without needing to even look at it. If I had to sort through it all piece by piece, it would take much longer...)

Are the two facilities operated by the same company?

Ooops. Hit send too soon...

Is he using a web-based e-mail reader on either machine?

HTML in e-mail relevant at all?

Can he get to the North building more easily? more often? so that when he needs to go to the South one, he knows that there's likely going to be more mail to go through?

Does he check the same e-mail address(es) regardless of which building he goes to?

Then let me be a little more precise: does he use a web-based e-mail reader on the computer in the North Building? on the computer in the south building?

Relevant that Outlook Express is just about the slowest, gunkiest mail program available? (in my opinion, anyway.)

********** RECAP **********

Both buildings are internet cybercafes. Ken will occasionally go to both to check his e-mails and other short tasks, using the same software and the same internet client to do both. They both charge $1 for the same length of time. Ken knows he will never exceed the time limit in the north building, but needs a stopwatch and 'backup' money for the south building. Why is this?

c'mon guys, you've practically got it :)
