A French-Portugese couple visiting my parents in New York in the 1970's got the impression that America was a much more religious country than it actually was. How come? |

Did they see lots of religious icons everywhere? Is this a town with a church on every corner (like Salt Lake City)? Are you referring to New York, New York? Were there lots of protests going on? Anything to do with a political contraversy? Any major publicity stunts happening then? |

Were people behaving more religiously than usual? Did they mistake something they saw for something religious? something they heard? Language relevant? Their nationality relevant? Could this happen today? |

Relevant that the couple was French & Portuguese? French language relevant? Portuguese language? Relevant that the French word for God is very similar to the Portuguese word (Dieu - Deu)? |

It seems far too easy to be the right answer to a Felicia Nimue puzzle, but it's worth ruling out, at least... |

It does seem a good shot The only problem I can see is that they still have "In God We Trust" on the money today - but I'm not offering more than 5-4 against. |
