The answer, rather depressingly, appears to be 28. |

By Mosquito (Mosquito) on Monday, December 19, 2005 - 03:13 pm: The question: How many days (usually) in February? no - that would not be particularly depressing, since payday comes earlier What is 4x7? if the fact that 4 x 7 = 28 depresses you, life is going to be fairly hard How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood? I suppose this might be depressing if you were having the wood chucked at you, but at least you could be happy that the answer was not 128 LTPF relevant? no By Jennifer (Tigger32382) on Monday, December 19, 2005 - 03:13 pm: is this the answer to a math problem? yes, but the math in question is applied rather than pure math does it refer to a number of years? no of a certain type of thing? yes By Mezzoforte (Mezzoforte) on Monday, December 19, 2005 - 03:15 pm: Question: What is life? no, no - the answer to that is indeed 42. And before anyone from Logician's puzzle has any ideas, 28 (and all other numbers that I will use in this puzzle) are in base 10 |

Is the answer a number of pounds sterling? Hundreds of same? Pence? Is this your weight in stone? The number of teeth you have? The number of pints you had last night? Is the answer in degrees Kelvin? Denier? Micrograms? Miles? High-card points? Hours? Pages? Proof? Digits of pi that you can recite? Is the question "how many angels can dance on the head of a pin?" |

By Mosquito (Mosquito) on Monday, December 19, 2005 - 03:55 pm: Is the answer a number of pounds sterling? no Hundreds of same? no Pence? no Is this your weight in stone? almost, but irrelevant The number of teeth you have? ditto The number of pints you had last night? ditto Is the answer in degrees Kelvin? no Denier? I do not know what this is, but the answer is not this Micrograms? no Miles? no High-card points? although the number of high-card points I have is an unending source of depression to me, this would not be the case were it 28 Hours? no Pages? no Proof? no Digits of pi that you can recite? no Is the question "how many angels can dance on the head of a pin?" no |

Denier? I do not know what this is, but the answer is not this FYI: this is a number that indicates how thick stockings and tights are. |

So, the unit attached to 28 measures time? age? length? weight? volume? something related to technology? A more scientific measurement? |

By Mosquito (Mosquito) on Monday, December 19, 2005 - 04:34 pm: FYI: this is a number that indicates how thick stockings and tights are I am, as the man said, no wiser. But at least I am better informed. By Rachel (Myth) on Monday, December 19, 2005 - 04:53 pm: So, the unit attached to 28 measures there is a slight FA here. The answer is 28 of some things, but these things are not units of measurement time? age? length? weight? volume? something related to technology? A more scientific measurement? and therefore, the answer is none of these - sorry |

Are the 28 things tangible? Intangible? Is the fact depressing only to you? Depressing to specific other relevant people? Depressing to anyone who knows that the answer is 28? |

By Mosquito (Mosquito) on Monday, December 19, 2005 - 05:09 pm: Are the 28 things tangible? yes Intangible? no Is the fact depressing only to you? it might depress others, if they knew it. On the other hand, it might not. I am very easily depressed. Life... don't talk to me about life Depressing to specific other relevant people? none that I know of at the moment Depressing to anyone who knows that the answer is 28? see above |

Are the 28 things inanimate? Do they belong to you? Are they in your flat? In London? In Europe? On earth? Are they the only 28 things of their kind in existence? The only 28 that share a common property? Is 28 depressing because it is too many? Too few? |

Are they valuable for most of us? Or do they have only a personal value? Are they anyhow related to you? Should you have received them but you are not going to? |
