RPA This answer is a bit cryptic; please tell whether it means "yes" or "no".

"RPA" stands for "Read Previous Answer". In this particular case, I think Buzzard was refering to her post made on Wednesday, December 14, 2005 - 03:02 pm, as this is still on the same page as of this posting.

I see... this is, I suppose, nearly as helpful as simply repeating the answer. But not quite.

She neither planned it, nor did it impulsively, nor did it by accident, correct?

Hmm...is there anything left? Did she attempt to do something, but ended up doing something else unintentionally?

She neither planned it, nor did it impulsively, nor did it by accident, correct? yes, but we are getting into subtle shades of meaning of the sort that invariably make people cross with me when they find out what the answer is. :( Of the three, the closest is "did it by accident", but this is still not quite right.

Hmm...is there anything left? Did she attempt to do something, but ended up doing something else unintentionally? this is also somewhat close, but not quite right

It's rough on a solver to get "no" answers for what seems an exhaustive list of the possibilities. It sort of cuts off all further avenues of thought...:)

So, she didn't quite expect her action to have the effect that it did? Was the effect a fairly likely one? Were there alternative likely effects?

Would S have done this if she had known just what would happen?

Had she ever done it before?

It's rough on a solver to get "no" answers for what seems an exhaustive list of the possibilities. It sort of cuts off all further avenues of thought... The operative word here is "seems". It is not my fault that none of the possibilities on what seems like your exhaustive list exactly match the situation of the puzzle. Perhaps it would be better to try another angle of approach.

So, she didn't quite expect her action to have the effect that it did? no, that is not right Was the effect a fairly likely one? FA Were there alternative likely effects? FA

Would S have done this if she had known just what would happen? yes/FA

Had she ever done it before? irrelevant

******** RECAP ********

Sarah, a university student, was on her way to meet Tony, her piano teacher, for a piano lesson. The lesson was to take place in Tony's office in the music building of the university. When Sarah was in the building, but not yet in Tony's office, she stopped to manipulate an object that was attached to the wall. This object was not a fire alarm or any other sort of alarm, but it made enough of a sound for Tony to hear it. Because of the time Sarah spent manipulating this object, she arrived five minutes late to her piano lesson. During the five minutes between when she was supposed to arrive and when she arrived, Tony drew a correct conclusion about Sarah that made him angry and frustrated with her. Because of this, when Sarah arrived for her lesson, Tony told her to leave.
