was it because he didn't celebrate it (by giving gifts, cards, etc.), yet he still received gifts from friends and family who *were* celebrating? So he got the most benefit out of the holiday that he ever had? |

Did he gain something materially? Emotionally? Were other people involved? Did they benefit too? Will he not celebrate again the following year? Will he benefit in the same way two years running? Could he benefit permanently? |

To clarify: So if he didn't celebrate Christmas every year, all things being equal, he would gain the same emotional benefit? Does that benefit last all year? Or is it permanent from just one Christmas-less season? |
