Recently, many people bought a lot of an item that in and of itself is inconvienient and inaccurate.

Anything related to a disaster or potential disaster (terrorism, bird flu, etc.)?

Is it a measuring device?

Did the buyers realize it was inconvenient? Inaccurate?

Was it a pregnancy test?

The Product:

Have people bought it often in the past?
Was it inconvenient then?
Inaccurate then?
Convenient now?
Accurate now?
Do people still buy it?
It is common now?
Was it common then?
Do one particular kind of people buy this item?
Male?
Female?
Child?
Does the item give any health benefits?
Does this item cause health to fail?
Are the people forced to buy this item?
Is this item expensive?
Are there benefits to having more than one?
Is this item endorsed on television?

Whew... Sorry... Initial brain dump!

Did people use it for a different purpose other than the advertised purpose?

Is it something that uses electricity? Batteries? Food product? Clothing?

Did they use it because there were no better similar products available?

If the item in and of itself is inconvenient and inaccurate, is it normally used in combination with something else?

Does it measure something? (That is: is it possible to measure something with its aid?)
I have read that it's not a measuring device, but also a microwave measures time...

Is it possible to receive information from it?

Is the item used in combination with a specific other item? Or can it be used with lots of other items?

Is is something one can use up?
Is it limited to a specific number of uses? One?

Can the item be called a product?

Was this item invented sometime? Was it invented shortly before the relevant buying time?

Is the item used at all? Is it just put somewhere to have it?

Is the product needed...
in certain jobs?
in certain countries?
for a certain event in life?

Does the item have an extraordinary design?

Is the item made of--
plastic? oil-based?
steel? iron-based?
wood?
several components?

Is it the packaging that is inconvenient, more so than the product?

Do people usually buy something similar today that works better (e.g., they buy computers instead of typewriters)?

Is it something that has been "invented" long ago but only recently got the attention of marketing firms?

Is it smaller than a mouse? smaller than a book? smaller than a TV set? smaller than a car?

Is it normally used inside? outside? If inside: usually in a specific room? Kitchen? Living room? Bedroom? Bathroom? Hall? Attic? Cellar?

Is it usually stationary? Carried around?

Wild guess: a dreamcatcher?

When used in conjunction with whatever makes it MORE accurate, do you need multiples of this small, might be wooden, item?

Do we ALWAYS carry this item around?

Does this item always have one specific shape?
Does it change shape during use?

Is it made of wood? paper? cardboard?
When you use it: do you break it? tear it apart? burn it? glue it onto something? make marks on it? bring it in contact with something liquid?
Does it cost two cents?
Not too long ago = this year? last year? a few years ago? ten years ago? late 20th century?
The period of time over which this item was bought very often: a few weeks? a few months? a year? a few years? a few decades?

$p0iler????

The additional 2 cent stamps that were required to bring old first class stamps to correct cost which are now useless?

The additional 2 cent stamps that were required to bring old first class stamps to correct cost which are now useless? YES!!!

Spoiler

Stamps got raised from thirty-seven cents to thirty-nine, requiring pople to buy additional two cent stamps to augment their old thirty-seven cent stamps. If you used only these two cant stamps to post a letter, it would cover the whole front and you'd have to put forty cents, inconvenient and innaccurate.

Thanks for all who participated! This went quick, so I'll need to think up some new puzzles.

Yippie! Awesome lateral...

You know, out of spite I one time DID send a letter using 2 cent stamps and it covered the front and most of the back...

Totally hillarious!
