That he has only 9 and a half fingers isn't quite enough for them. This might go quick, or might take forever. I'm curious to see! |

Is ransom involved in the story? Someone kidnapped? Blackmail? Does half finger mean a finger cut at the middle? Do they expect someone in particular who can be identified by the number of fingers on his hand? Do they need someone with missing fingers to perfomr a task? Perhaps if he is missing a finger he can pick a lock easier or fit his hand somewhere a normal person would not be able to? |

What you need to find out is what type of criminal organization he is part of, and to whom and why he is trying to prove his involvement in that organization. The fact that he is missing the finger is only relevant in the fact that it is partial proof, but not quite enough to prove his involvement in the criminal group |

Is it an international organisation? Could I expect to find that type of organisation in every large city? Does the organisation's business involve: -drugs -prostitution -smuggling -murder -protection money The people he is talking to: -part of an organisation? -criminals? -people investigating about his organisation? Are the people paying him/ do they want to hire him? Why he has to convince them: Does he want to prove his experience in criminel business? Will he get into trouble if the people don't believe him? Is it true that the people want to be sure that he was in exaclty this organisation and not in an other comparable one? |

Correction, and I'm sorry for not having my info all together earlier: The group he is part of could be called mafia, but is not the mafia you'd think of if I had just said yes. It's a mafia-ish organization specific to one region/location. It is that detail that is relevant about the group he belongs to |

Ok then.... ***********SPOILER**************** Because perhaps hundreds of Japanese Yakuza gangsters are nearing retirement age, the Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare has drafted rules for the former gambling, loan shark, and protection workers to qualify for benefits, according to a March dispatch from Tokyo in The Times of London. Since organized crime leaves no employment paper trail, ex-mobsters must supply a letter of retirement from their crime boss in order to sign up, although local governments are expected to accept as partial proof gang tattoos, criminal records, demonstrations of missing finger tips (the sign of traditional Yakuza punishment for mistakes).
