Were the people's lives saved? Were they warned against doing something that would have endangered them? Would they otherwise have contracted a nasty but not necessarily fatal illness/condition? |

Did the contents of the book itself save them? Or just the advertisement? Was the advertisement along the lines of "There's a meteor coming on July 27th just before lunch - don't eat at Starbucks that day. Eat on the outskirts of town at McJoe's instead. This book will tell you all about it." ? |

Please correct me if I'm wrong. "Some people designed the ad and released it worldwide. Someone put one of these ads in a bottle and thrown it to the sea. Someone in the ship of the saviors catches the bottle and reads the ad. The saviors, thinking it was a serious piece of information (and it eventually proved to be true), realize there's a mutiny in a ship close to them and, by pure compassion, decide to turn their heading towards the other ship and save them. All of this happened in the 19th century." The people who released the ad: were they at sea? on land? in a city? in a remote place? Is the person who put the ad in a bottle: in an island? in a city? in a remote place? Just confirming: was it pure coincidence that the ad was talking about mutiny on a ship nearby and that that situation was really taking place? |

On land Is the person who put the ad in a bottle: in an island? in a city? in a remote place? On land Just confirming: was it pure coincidence that the ad was talking about mutiny on a ship nearby and that that situation was really taking place? Yes Actually, i think that you have enough info for now. ***********SPOILER************* In the second half of the 19th century, a crew of a freighter, "Maurice", noticed a bottle with a message floating in waters. It was immediately put onboard and the message was read: "Help! "Sea Hero" ship has a mutiny on board. The sailors locked me and other crewmen which didn't join the mutiny in the brig. They are going to kill us. We are at longitude (...) latitude (...)" Seeing this, "Maurice" immediately changed its course and raced to help the "Sea Hero". They found the ship at the designated coordinates. The rebellious crew onboard panicked as the freighter ordered them to surrender. The saviors quickly restored peace onboard and released the imprisoned crewmen. "Well I must congratulate you!" smiled the captain of "Maurice" "If it weren't for the message you released, we would have never known about you!" "Message?" the officer was visibly surprised. "What message? I didn't have time for any messages!" The puzzle was solved quickly when they got to dry land. It turned out that an author of an adventure book, "Sea Hero" - which told about mutiny onboard a ship of the same name - decided to improve its sales. He made lots of handwritten letters, each formed as a plea for help, put them in bottles and released into the ocean. "Maurice" found one of such advert, and mistaking it for an authentic message, raced to help the "Sea Hero". In a nearly impossible coincidence, there was such exactly a ship in the designated coordinates, with the same name and a mutiny onboard. Well, it was my frist riddle (or at least, one of the first) and it contained some "bloopers" (most notably, unable to decide whether the author of the ad was relevant or not. ) But it was still fun. |

Note: I've read the above relayed as a true story. (except for some details, such as the name of "Maurice" and the exact contents of the advert) |
