If Fred's granny had been ill, would he enjoy what Sam did? Likewise, if Sam's granny had not had measles, would he suffer the same fate as Fred? Sam and Fred are children? Teenagers? Relevant that they go to school? Is their relationship to each other relevant? Friends? Classmates? Schoolmates? Neighbours? Related by blood? Cousins? Enemies? Would the puzzle work if it was Sam's father who had the measles instead? Or Sam's mother? If Fred's sister had the measles, would he be as lucky as Sam? |

Or maybe all grandchildren of grannies with measles are automatically given straight As as compensation. Lucky Sid. Was she quarantined at home? In her room? If so, was Sid living in the same house as her? Or did he have to move out for the time being? Did they live together before she got the measles? Was Sid's granny supposed to do something? to Sid? for Sid? Has Sid done something wrong? Has Fred? Did Fred get injured? Did he lose anything material? Did Sid gain anything? Money? Who are the "lots of people" involved here-- the general public? Sid and Fred's friends? An official organisation? non-official one? an illegal one? |

Sid's granny was quaranttined, right? And her illness prevented them (or Sid, at least) from doing something, right? What was prevented, was it a celebration? If yes, for mothers? grannies? fathers? children? grandchildren? or irrelevant? Would Fred's granny have to travel over to Fred's? or receive children? grandchildren including Fred? Was there easy passage across the wall? Would she take Fred to a place where grannies must accompany an under 18 to? Would Fred have to run errands? do house chores? be required to fulfil some social obligations? be expected to meet some social expectations? which he would rather avoid? If yes, is it about dress code? activities? places to visit? Would Sid visit a place of interest? If yes, would he lie about his age? and thereby receive a present? or buy some item of interest and get other for free? |

Was the wall put up when Fred was in his granny's house? Fred went to visit his granny and got stuck on the other side when the wall was put up? Yes That's near enough for a SPOILER ALERT Sid and Fred lived in Berlin in 1961.On one August night,Sid and Fred were due to spend the night with their grannies in another part of town.Sid's granny fell ill so the visit was cancelled.Fred's granny wasn't so he visited her as normal.Overnight, the Wall was put up.The next morning,Fred found himself stranded with his granny in the East away from his family, friends and all his possessions-could be considered unlucky.Sid was still with his family in the West and consequently was rather lucky(even though he didn't get to see Gran again) |
