Was your discovery made from your review? author's writing? or others'/previous reviews? Was it about propositions made? claims? events recounted? beliefs expressed? Was it about process underwent during review? |

Did you write those reviews? Someone else? Is a particular book relevant? |

Did you make a discovery about yourself? About your own writing style? About the writers of the books? About the literary world? Its system? Are your book reviews published professionally? in a newspaper? magazine? relevant? If you were simply writing these book reviews privately, in your own diary, would you still make this discovery? |

Do you make this discovery only after you see your reviews published? Do all your reviews get published? Relevant? Do the publishers put a positive slant on the reviews? a negative one? or a positive or negative one, depending on how the publishers themselves feel about the book/author? Are you quoted out of context? Eg. "So-and-so has reached a whole new level in awfulness" becomes "So-and-so has reached a whole new level"? |

Could it be the nature of reviews that you try really hard to find mistakes, just to show that your review is its money worth, even if the work is really great? |

Yes--I don't write them unless asked to Relevant? yes Do the publishers put a positive slant on the reviews?no a negative one? or a positive or negative one, depending on how the publishers themselves feel about the book/author? no Are you quoted out of context? Eg. "So-and-so has reached a whole new level in awfulness" becomes "So-and-so has reached a whole new level"? yes *********SPOILER************* Well, that's embarrassing--I had no idea this one would be so easy. The shock is that when I've said something negative (e.g. that a 16th century maid has a 20th century sensibility & that this is irritating), a blurb appeared in the book as "a 16th century maid with a 20th century sensibility," as if this were praise. This sort of thing has happened twice--but I hope a very easy puzzle on my part won't. Please check out my new one at the bottom of the page.
