Is she shocked by seeing this or does she expect it? Does she look in the bathroom mirror? In the morning? Is her face really covered in 'black ink'? Is the substance really ink that you would use in a fountain pen, or in a printer? |

Did someone put the black ink on her face? Did she put the ink on her own face? Unknowingly? Perhaps when she went to bed, she smeared the ink all over her face, thinking that it was face cream? |

When she unknowingly put the ink on her face, was she sober? awake? delirious? Was she aware that she was putting something on her face? Was it dark? Can we assume that the ink came out of an ink bottle? Did she think the bottle of ink was something else? Did the ink get on her face before she went to bed? While she was in bed? Just after she awoke in the morning? |
