I've been following this site for months before finally plucking up the courage to post so here goes (Please feel free to point out any rookie mistakes!).

A clever pun got Tom out of a dilema

Hello! Welcome and congratulations on your first post. :-)

Tom: human? adult? male?
Who made this pun: Tom? someone else?
Is there anything relevant about Tom? age? occupation? anything physically dfferent about him? mentally different?
How soon did this pun get Tom out of his dilemma? immediately? a few minutes? half an hour? an hour? 2 hours? a few hours? a day? longer?
This dilemma that he was in: was he afraid of offending someone? losing something? losing someone? hurting himself? not being able to gain something?

Hello! Welcome & Congratulations on your first post, thank you

Tom: human? adult? male? yes to all
Who made this pun: Tom? Yes someone else?
Is there anything relevant about Tom? yesage? nooccupation? yes anything physically dfferent about him? no mentally different? no
How soon did this pun get Tom out of his dilema? immediately? in Tom's opinion yes a few minutes? half an hour? an hour? 2 hours? a few hours? a day? longer? would have to say no to the rest but somewhat hard to quantify, suffice to say that the pun gave Tom instant satisfaction which i'm sure lasted for a period of time
The dilema that he was in: was he afraid of offending someone? this one losing something? losing someone? hurting himsel? not being able to gain something?

P.s could you explain how i copy your questions into my post so I only have to type the answers?

Hello. Newbie to this. Please bear with me.
So did Tom write the pun on the report card?
Is the one student's performance relevant?
Did Tom previously say or write something that could be mistook for being insulting? Was it on the report card as well?
Or did Tom's pun get his point across without being insulting?

Fred has forged ahead in his exam work this term? that's close enough to declare

*************SPOLIER*************

Tom is my old English Teacher a fellow of infinite jest to coin a phrase. Pat was a pal of mine who was a very lazy student who never did a days revision in his life & who would have averaged a D- in English. However at one end of term exam Pat submitted a suberb paper full of obscure references to Text and note books. Tom was convinced Pat had smuggled his notes into the exam and copied from them(he was right by the way) but lacking proof could not come right out and accuse him. Knowing that Pat's parents were very protective of their son this put Tom in a dilema in terms of what to write in the Teacher's comments section on Pat's report card. After some careful consideration Pat's report card under English read

Score 95% Grade A+ Comment : Forging Ahead

Hope you enjoyed my first effort thanks to Sunshine for sticking with it and to Damia & Rufus for playing along. Will post another today.
