**********SPOILER *************
Korean is widely acknowledged to have the most logical alphabet in the world--hanguil, invented in the 15th century in order to increase literacy. It's so logical because the symbols build on one another, eg, the letter for 'yoooooo' is related to the letter for 'ooooooooo' as the letter for 'yo' (as in 'yoyo') is related to the letter for 'oh.' Koreans are so proud of their alphabet that they have an annual holiday to celebrate it--Hanguil Day, on October 9. Sorry the puzzle, as well as the Korean alphabet, is so easy. Check out my new one you-know-where.

There is indeed a logic to this structure, but it is also logical to have one simple symbol for each phoneme, as in Latin or Russian. English is not a phonetic language, but still the "symbol" for 'yo' looks very much like the symbols for 'y' and 'o'. It is not clear to me that there is really a gain in combining them into one symbol when the combination of the two seems just as simple.
