So the V is relevant only in so far as it spells the word lived? could V represent anything else? roman numeral for 5? so your puzzle statement could read he lied about 5 or around 5? Anything to do with the Devil? Any other religeous connotations?

would he have died if he had told the truth?
A violent death?
If so, a murder?
Did he lie to the IRS (as in, on his tax return)?
Or to someone else?
Did he lie about a specific tax?
Sales tax?
Property tax?
Estate tax?
Did he lie about his relationship to somebody on a tax form?

My first post, so apologies in advance if I violate any rules of etiquette or form:

With his falsified tax return, did he owe money to the IRS? Or did the IRS owe him money?

Had he completed his tax return truthfully, would he have owed money to the IRS? Or would the IRS have owed him?

Had he completed his taxes truthfully, how soon thereafter would his violent murder occurred? After completing them? After sending/submitting them? After the IRS received them? After the IRS processed them? If after IRS processing, how long after? 1 day? 1 week? 1 month? 1 year? Longer?

Is he trying to conceal his identity?

@ElnessWelcome m8, I'm pretty new myself... it's a blast!

My first post, so apologies in advance if I violate any rules of etiquette or form:

With his falsified tax return, did he owe money to the IRS? Yes Or did the IRS owe him money? So, no

Had he completed his tax return truthfully, would he have owed money to the IRS? No Or would the IRS have owed him? N/A

Had he completed his taxes truthfully, how soon thereafter would his violent murder occurred? After completing them? After sending/submitting them? After the IRS received them? After the IRS processed them? If after IRS processing, how long after? 1 day? 1 week? 1 month? 1 year? Longer? Let's arbitrarily take it that the D-day was a week after he filed his taxes. It would have been a murder if he had told the truth, but since he lied, it turned out to be an attempted murder.

Did the would-be murderer know that he lied on his taxes before the murder attempt? If not, did the would-be murderer know he lied after the attempt? Did the would-be murderer know that the murder attempt failed?

Did the liar know that there would be an attempt on his life prior to lying on his taxes? Did he know that there had been an attempt on his life after the fact?

How was the murder attempted or to be attempted?:
Gun or other projectile-firing weapon?
Knife or other sharp stabbing/cutting weapon?
Electrocution?
Club, bat, or other hand-wielded blunt force trauma-inducing weapon?
Explosion or fire?
Poisoning or exposure to dangerous substance?
Hit by car or other vehicle?
Staged accident of some type?

Was the liar injured in the attempt on his life?

Ok, the tax evader = A and the would-be murderer = B

B didn't know that A lied before he killed him? If yes, then A would have still survived the murder attempt had he told the truth?

Was B also a tax evader? Had A told the truth, would B also be convicted? Did B find out about this only after A lied?

If B had murdered A, would B have been saved from death? An arrest? Some physical harm? Or anything along these lines? Is it relevant how A escaped from death? Did A lie only to the IRS? Would it benefit B if A lied? Or if A told the truth?

Yes,(that's what this puzzle is about) Did A lie only to the IRS? He probably lied to others but not relevant to this puzzle Would it benefit B if A lied? Or if A told the truth? No, to both

So B tried to shoot A. Right? But somehow A escaped death because he had lied on his tax forms?

Did A buy something with the extra money he got from not paying all his taxes? And this something averted the bullet? Or was some person present at the scene that wouldn't have been there if A had told the truth in the first place?

Oh, did B actually fire on A?
