Are we dealing with ordinary subtraction? I.e. Borrowing one from the next column over in order to subtract a larger number from a smaller number? |

Are we dealing with ordinary subtraction? I.e. Borrowing one from the next column over in order to subtract a larger number from a smaller number? Eh? Like: 23 - 19 ----- ...when you have to borrow fron the ten's column to take away the 9 from 3? No. |

Is this like the camel problem? Trying to give 1/2 the camels to the eldest son, 1/3 to the middle son, and 1/9 to the youngest when you only have 17 camels? Borrow 1 camel, and suddenly the math is easy (the sons together only get 17 camels between them and you hand back the first camel you borrowed). |
