John=h?a?m? John = "he" that is in jail? how much time is John likely to serve: 1 day? 1 week? 6 months? 1 year? 10 years? more than 10 years? true story? "the week before" = before something specific? did a memo arrive when he was out sick? relevant what he was sick with? lots of negatives in the sentence, to clarify: John was out sick, a memo arrived, he did not get said memo, and now he in jail? is there a murder involved? a conspiracy? is John a criminal? is John a murderer? is John's sickness relevant? is John's job white collar? blue collar? relevant? does not receiving the memo directly relate to him being in jail? |

was the memo addressed to him? only him? did the memo have specific details that made John go kill? was it a generic memo that if I had received it I would just think "oh, another boring memo"? I'm sure someone better than me can spill out a list of weapons/type of murders, but would it be relevant to go down that path? did John murder: his boss? a coworker? a family member? a human? did John try to cover up the murder? was it done at night or something so as to try and not be caught? was he caught red handed? does John think he's justified in his murder? did John ever receive the memo? was the murder committed at work? is this an instance where the memo said something like "the cleaning crew will be here early tomorrow" and they arrived, and john mistook them for thieves and opened fire? |

Ok, the victim was acting out a part in a drill, right? And John came upon him threatening his cow-orkers and shot him, right? John believed they were in physical danger and the "actor" was armed? He didn't know it was a drill because he was out sick the week before? And the only piece we don't have is how/with what the victim was threatening them?you've basically got it all, so I'll make that a spoiler-- (I don't think I even had in mind with what the victim was threatening them). ************ SPOILER ***************** John was out the week before with something (let's say flu) and missed a memo which stated that the ER was going to partake in a "hostage crisis drill"--basically train them what to do in case somebody came in and threatened them (let's say with a gun or something). John thought it was a real crisis situation, pulled out his gun (he lives in some state which allows someone to carry a registered concealed weapon) and shot the man, thinking he would be hailed a hero. Instead, he was jailed for murder. Thanks to Bodo for sticking with the puzzle and spoiling--though his ninja-pirate-zombie-penguin would have been a sight to see! I came up with this idea after remembering that a friend of mine years ago had to participate in these hostage crisis situations as an ER nurse. I thought, hmmm, what would happen if she came in and thought it was the real thing instead of a drill. Thanks for playing! |
