Al spoke to Bob and gave him explicit clear instructions. Bob followed these and told Al that he had done so. Al then realised that he should have told Charlie instead. |

Is there a relevant difference between Bob and Charlie? For example, is Bob color-blind? Very tall? Very short? |

Is Charlie responsible for a portion of the process that undid everything that Bob did? Vice versa? Would the problem work if Al had told both of them? Are these instructions that more than one person can follow? At the same time? |

Just to clarify that answer to Eli... AL would have certainly wanted Charlie to carry out the instructions to the letter... whether he would have is a different question, and ultimately not relevant here. |

My guess is this... Al was attempting to arrest a criminal from outside of the building, over the phone. He said something along the lines of "come out with your hands up" and when the person on the other end said that he was doing so, yet nobody came out of the building, Al realized he had the wrong #? |

He said something along the lines of "come out with your hands up" and when the person on the other end said that he was doing so, yet nobody came out of the building, Al realized he had the wrong #?That's it! ************** SPOILER ***************** Al is a police officer organising a armed siege of Charlie's house. He rings the number and tells Bob (who answers the phone) that his house is surrounded and to come out with his hands up etc etc. Bob does so, but seeing nobody about comes back in and tells Al. Al then realises that he has dialled the wrong number! One of these great stories you find on the net ... and then lose the link to when it comes time for the spoiler! Well done to all who took part, but especially to Lori who stuck with it and completed the puzzle! |
