Are both the learning and the playing expensive? If not, then what part would cost thousands; learning? playing? If playing, is it because the instrument is very valuable?

Would it cost thousands because you had to travel to some far-away place? because the teacher is so famouse he/she can charge that much without problems? Could anyone do it, if they had the money necessary? Relevant how much it costs?

Was the cost an actual amount of money that had to be paid? Or was it more of an opportunity cost?

Did the cost come in...

...transportation?
...paying the teacher?
...paying for equipment?
...paying to rent out a space to practice?
...paying for another good (not musical equipment)?
...paying for another service (not the teaching itself)?
...an unforeseen event? Like while you were on the way, you got in a car accident?

is the instrument he was playing on relevant? the piece he was learning? is it relevant where he learned? did he learn in his home? in his teachers home? did he learn from scratch - i.e. he had never played before? or did he want to learn something specific?
