Is the title relevant? If so, is semla referencing the Swedish pastry? Is 'it' an action? Or an object? |

Did you buy it at a shop? A restaurant? A cafe? Do we need to know how the semla was made? Or who made it? Is it a normal semla, just like all the other semlas? Did you buy it on its own? Or with other semlas? Or with a meal? Was the semla a reward for something? Was the semla itself the 'payoff' described in the puzzle statement? Or did you otherwise gain something from eating the semla? |

Is the amount of money you acquired just enough to purchase this one semla? or is it enough to purchase several semla? hundreds of semla? It was enough to pay for about three semlas. Did you actually sell the object for money Yes-ish or did you trade the object for the semla? No. |

Hmm, still totally confused. I hope the answers below help clearing up a bit the nature of the FA. Did you have an object I had something, then someone gave you some money Yes for it FA and then you no longer had Yes it FA in your possession? Hope that helps. It's probably much simpler than you think. |

Did they have any value to the person/persons to whom you sold them? Or did they purchase them from you due to an unwritten agreement (for example, the way a casino would be obligated to cash in someone's chips)? Is it likely that this person would sell them to somebody else? use them for entertainment? use them to make a profit? keep them for a collection? You said the purchaser was a stranger. Did you find this person in the want ads? on-line? at an auction? by visiting their place of business? through random conversation? Are these items consumable (not in the edible sense, but in the sense that they can be "used up")? |

I'm sure it's written down somewhere, actually. Is it likely that this person would sell them to somebody else? Hm, good question. The most honest answer I can give is "probably", but I am not sure. Quite irrelevant, anyway. use them for entertainment? No. use them to make a profit? Yes. keep them for a collection? No. You said the purchaser was a stranger. Did you find this person in the want ads? on-line? at an auction? by visiting their place of business? through random conversation? FA to all. Are these items consumable (not in the edible sense, but in the sense that they can be "used up")? Yes, one might say so in a sufficiently broad sense. |

Are they bus tickets? or other form of public transport tickets? do you have to have exact fare when travelling and if you do not, you are given a receipt for the amount you have paid extra and have to collect the money later? |

Vouchers relevant? or tokens? Nope. HINT: it shouldn't be very difficult to guess what these objects are. |

Was thinking coins, but that has been asked already. Just to verify, could you have gone in to the semla shop and bought the semla with the objects? or did you have to sell them first? |

Would you find these metal things in; a grocery shop? an electrical shop? DIY shop? garden centre/nursery? furniture shop? clothes shop? |

Do these metal objects have any value other than trade value? Did you sell the objects for more than you bought them? |

In reference to my questions regarding the value of the objects-is their only value in what you are able to trade for them? For example, a casino chip-it has no real inherent value other than its cash value at the casino which issued it. Sorry for not being very clear on this. My brain is a bit muddy today! When you purchased the objects, was there something else with them? Are they aluminum soda cans? or some other recyclable object? |

For example, a casino chip-it has no real inherent value other than its cash value at the casino which issued it. Aha, I see what you mean now. If you don't mind, I would avoid answering this difficult question... a casino chip has some value even outside of a casino, after all, at the very least because of the materials it is made of. Your questions below make this answer unncecessary, anyway. Sorry for not being very clear on this. My brain is a bit muddy today! Believe me, I know what you mean... When you purchased the objects, was there something else with them? Yes. Are they aluminum soda cans? Bingo. or some other recyclable object? Do you mind putting the pieces together? |

Ok, I think. So you saved all of your old soda cans and traded them in at a scrapyard (or maybe you live somewhere with a bottle bill and you collected your deposit money? Splitting hairs, I know, but I just wanted to cover my bases). At any rate, you used the money to buy the semlas, which were your reward for all of your hard work of stockpiling soda cans? |

I would say this fits the bill. I will just fill in some unimportant but entertaining details below... When you're pressed for time and you need to take a quick lunch, nothing beats the good ol' sandwich. The shop my colleagues and I usually buy sandwiches from offers a can of soda for very little extra money: an offer you can't refuse. Thus, day after day, empty soda cans piled up in my office room. After a year or two, my roommate and I reckoned that two huge paper bags were probably enough. We brought the 109 cans to the closest supermarket (that's how it works in Sweden), gave them away for recycling and ended up with about 6 € worth of coupons, which were readily re-invested in our favourite winter pastime: semla. Thank you all for playing, especially Eli and Lori for figuring out most of the puzzle! Oh, and by the way: ********* SPOILER ********* |

And I woke up this morning thinking - A-HA must be drink cans! I was sure Sweden has he same system as back home in Norway where you bring your bottles and cans back to the shop to get money back for them. And then the puzzle had been solved overnight, sigh.. But still a good one, so thanks. |
