The Guardian recently ran a short article about the success of a group of birdwatchers. What was the brilliant headline for the article? |

By bird of prey do you mean the sharp taloned hooked beak variety (raptor) or another bird that preys on animals or insects? My mother told me recently she saw a magpie take an injured sparrow in her back garden. Is it a magpie? What about the bustard? (lots of potential puns here and i know that they are being reintroduced to the UK) Heron? Does the bird feed on mammals? fish? insects? other birds? Does it take live prey or feast on carrion ? |

Peter, Well done you got it. * * * SPOILER * * * The headline reads: Egrets, we've had a few, birdwatchers say. See the story at the bottom of this page: http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2008/mar/15/11 I thought it was a clever headline. I hope you liked it too. Very nice Paul. The Guardian wouldnt be noted for it's witty headlines but that was a good one. I've always thought that newspaper headlines could provide lots of puzzles and I once considered running my own favourite as a puzzle but it required certain knowledge of soccer so i didn't think it would go well. Can't recall which paper but it was a report on Glasgow Celtics shock cup defeat to Inverness Caledonian Thistle some years ago, the headline read "Super Cali Go Ballistic Celtic Are Atrocious" . You gotta love that. |

...That's sad, my friend just did an Egyptian painting for an art class with egrets on it, and in hieroglyphics he wrote "Egrets, I've had a few" I was going to write that down in my question, but I thought it was a bit too far-fetched. Darn those gut urges! Lol |

Tobasi, Hm, I don't understand Pauls answer to my first question then. The key part of the headline is - Egrets, we've had a few. The pun and the humour does not involve the words bird or watcher, so if I had said Yes to your question it would have led you down a wrong path I think. |

An Italian left-wing newspaper, well-known for its witty headlines and for its sharply critical attitude towards the conservatism of the catholic Church, on the occasion of the election of the present Pope chose the following front-page headline: The German Shepherd |
