I;m puzzled how you could lose your head and not be the victim of an accident, murder, execution or suicide so i'm going to ask a really daft question. Did he die? Era is relevant so 21st century? 20th? 19th? 18th? 17th? 16th? before this? Location : Earth? North America? South America? Asia? Africa? Europe? other? or are we looking for a more specific location like a courtroom? Was he aware that saying the word nothing would result in his beheading? was he being defiant? Was he asked if he had anything to say? was he asked had he done something? |

Heheh! An inspired idea, and better than the actual solution. But no: the head in question was actually cut off. |

A flower? A cabbage? Something edible? Inedible? Is who removed the head relevant? A stranger? Friend? Enemy?. Is how the head was removed relevant? Was it cut off, broken, or wrenched off? If he was unaware it was happening, was he present at the time? Was the plant in the same location as he was? Did the plant belong to him? Is the type of plant relevant? Did the 'head' die? The rest of the plant? Was the head removed to be planted elsewhere (as a "bud")? |

A flower? not this A cabbage? or this Something edible? Inedible? inedible to humans Is who removed the head relevant? yes, though not his/her exact identity A stranger? yes Friend? no Enemy? and perhaps a little of this. Is how the head was removed relevant? no Was it cut off, broken, or wrenched off? I imagine it was snipped or chopped off If he was unaware it was happening, was he present at the time? no, good q Was the plant in the same location as he was? no Did the plant belong to him? no, good q again Is the type of plant relevant? not the exact species, only the general sort of thing we're dealing with Did the 'head' die? yes, I suppose it must have done The rest of the plant? no Was the head removed to be planted elsewhere (as a "bud")? no |

More than a human? Was it a giant human? A topiary sculpture of several humans? A centaur or similar? Had the man who said nothing sculpted it himself? Or was it a sculpture of him (though I'm not sure topiary could be detailed enough to represent a specific person)? Was the head cut off as a punishment? Revenge? A warning? Did the person who cut it off think he actually wanted his bush's head cut off? Did his saying nothing make someone angry? Di it give a false impression of what he wanted? Is a misunderstanding involved? Did he eventually become aware that the head had been cut off? If so, or if he had found out, would he have been angry? Pleased? Bewildered? Frightened? |

Revenge? more precisely this A warning? not this Did the person who cut it off think he actually wanted his bush's head cut off? no Did his saying nothing make someone angry? this Di it give a false impression of what he wanted? no Is a misunderstanding involved? no: his meaning was clear, and correctly understood by the vengeful bush-snipper Did he eventually become aware that the head had been cut off? possibly but irrelevant If so, or if he had found out, would he have been angry? Pleased? Bewildered? Frightened? perhaps a little angry or perhaps a little amused; my source doesn't mention his reaction |

Is the man's job relevant? I'm thinking maybe he is a public figure like a politician, and he replied "nothing" to a question, which made someone angry so they defaced his sculpture? Did he reply "nothing" to a question like "What are you going to do about..."? Is it relevant who the other sculptures are of? Do they also represent real people? Did only the statue of the man who said nothing get the head cut off, or all of them? Is the sculpture a literal representation of him? Or is it more of a generic human figure which represents him? Is the fugure carrying an object associated with the man, or standing in a particular way that makes it clear who he is? Is the sculpture on display in a public place? Would anyone who saw it know that it represented the man? Or would you need some special knowledge about the man? Is it relevant how much time passed between his saying nothing and the head being cut off? |

Is the man's job relevant? yes-ish I'm thinking maybe he is a public figure like a politician, and he replied "nothing" to a question, which made someone angry so they defaced his sculpture? not a politician, but the rest is true enough Did he reply "nothing" to a question like "What are you going to do about..."? no, not this Is it relevant who the other sculptures are of? yes-ish, in that they may help you piece together the whole picture Do they also represent real people? yes Did only the statue of the man who said nothing get the head cut off, or all of them? just the one man Is the sculpture a literal representation of him? yes, as detailed as one can get with topiary Or is it more of a generic human figure which represents him? see above Is the fugure carrying an object associated with the man, or standing in a particular way that makes it clear who he is? not carrying an object, but associated with an object that reveals his job, and, in context, his identity Is the sculpture on display in a public place? yes Would anyone who saw it know that it represented the man? anyone who had not lived in a cave for the last fifty years, yes Or would you need some special knowledge about the man? yes, but it's knowledge I imagine you already have Is it relevant how much time passed between his saying nothing and the head being cut off? not really: in fact it was a few weeks |

Coming right after Woubit's puzzle about the holes in Blackburn, it was hard to resist.
