Leo, who immigrated to America from Germany in 2006, looks & is 25 years old. So he didn't expect Americans to suggest thast he was somehow implicated in the Holocaust & they didn't. But he still finds that being in America has given him reason to be embarrassed by his German background. How come???? |

Is Leo Jewish? Do people think he might be? Is it relevant that he is 25? Relevant when he was born? Or when he emigrated? Are anti-German sentiments relevant? Left-over resentment from the war? Are World Wars 1 or 2 at all relevant? Any other historical events? Does Leo look particularly German? Or speak with a German accent? Or do people not know he is German until he tells them? Relevant? Does he speak English well? Is the German language relevant? Are any specific aspects of German? Or American? culture relevant? Are cultural differences relevant? Does Leo make an embarrassing faux pas because of a difference between the two countries? Does he have to be German for this to work? Or could he be of a different background? Could this work if he had moved to a different country than America? To people expect Leo to act in a certain way, or to have a specific characteristic, because he is German that he does not have? |

Is his job relevant? Is he famous? Is he a student? Was he born in 1983? 1982? Were there any relevant events in Germany in the year of his birth? Is the Berlin Wall relevant? Was he born in East Germany? West Germany? Did he or his parents receive any financial subsidies? Would he be equally embarrassed in front of his fellow Germans? Would it help for us to find out the reasons for his emigration? Does he have a criminal record? Did Germany in 1982-1983 have some legislation which allowed him to travel to America, that other nations would not have? Did he feel that he had received a special privilege relative to the Americans? Relative to his fellow Germans? Did he discover something in America that he would not have discovered in Germany? Are immigration quotas relevant at all? Are legal drinking ages relevant? Are the circumstances of his birth relevant? Are abortion laws relevant? Is he simply ashamed to be associated with Kraftwerk, without whom US electronic music might never have been quite the same? |
