Men = 20%, women = 74%. For purely selfish reasons, I'm glad it was this way round. |

Is this the result of a survey or research? Are the two percentages linked to the 1 situation? Is there a 6% we need to find out about? Are your selfish reasons because you are a man? or do you gain in some way from the outcome? |

Is it something like "20% of males and 74% of females do [insert thing here]"? Something like "20% of the people who do [insert thing here] are male and 74% are female?"? Or something else similar? something completely different? Is your gender relevant? If so, which one are you? |

Is it something like "20% of males and 74% of females do [insert thing here]"? this is the closer option, but as the percentages are linked to a specific event perhaps 'did' would be a better word than 'do' Something like "20% of the people who do [insert thing here] are male and 74% are female?"? no Or something else similar? see above something completely different? see above Is your gender relevant? no If so, which one are you? irre, but I'm male |

HINT: I perhaps ought to have said: 'women = 74%, men = 20%' |

The event the percentages are linked to... Did it take place in the last week? Month? Year? Five years? Twenty years? Century? Millennium? Was it a world event? Is it tied to a particular place in the world? A particular country? A particular type of place (e.g. airports)? Number of people involed: 1 (doesn't make much sense, but anyway)? 2-5? 6-10? 11-20? 21-50? 51-100? 101-1000? 1001-100 000? 100 000-10 000 000? More? |

IS this something like for example 74% percent of British women watched Lady Diana's funeral while 20% of men did? Or are the percentages more to do with actually taking part in the event? Your gain from the percentages is it financial? or did you just gain enjoyment? satisfaction? Have to ask this: Is sexual behaviour relevant? |

Your gain from the percentages is it financial? no or did you just gain enjoyment? no satisfaction? no Have to ask this: Is sexual behaviour relevant? no |

Geographic location of the event relevant? If so, A specific country? A specific city? Europe? America? Oceania? Africa? Asia? Antarctica? Did the event take place in the last decade (1990-1999)? In the decade before that? Shot in the dark: Berlin wall relevant? Is it a world event? Would I already know about it? |

I'm think I am causing confusion, sorry. By 'in the last Century' I mean within the last 100 years, so sometime between 1908 and 2008, and it was towards the beginning of this time period Geographic location of the event relevant? yes If so, A specific country? A specific city? Europe? somewhere between Europe and America America? Oceania? Africa? Asia? Antarctica? Did the event take place in the last decade (1990-1999)? no, I hope the above clears up the time period a little In the decade before that? no Shot in the dark: Berlin wall relevant? no Is it a world event? Would I already know about it? yes, very much so |

Actually we've already narrowed it down between 1908 and 1988 as the option 'twenty years?' was given... the clue that it happened "towards the beginning of this time period" suggests that it was pre-1950 which in turn suggests that you were not born when the event occured which bares some significance when attempting to determine how you benifited from this result... So lets just check some of that: Pre-1950? Were you born when this event occured? Your parents relevant? Your grandparents? |

Survivors of the titanic? Your great grandmother was one of the 74% of women who made it to the lifeboats and survived. Therefore you benefitted by being born? |

Survivors of the titanic? yes Your great grandmother was one of the 74% of women who made it to the lifeboats and survived. no Therefore you benefitted by being born? but yes, being born was the benfit You're basically there, so... *****SPOILER***** My great gradmother's fiance was one of the 80% of men who went down with the Titanic. If the ship hadn't sunk, she'd have probably married him and my great grandfather's luck would have been out. So, as Peter365 rightly says, I benefitted by being born. Thank you for taking part and sorry is was so quick. |

I was looking at a titanic website which has the full passenger manifest. There's even a little biopic of each person. Fascinating stuff. |

I've looked at a few of those too, they are really interesting. I don't actually know the name of the man who could have married my great grandmother, but I'm sure my mother knows, so I might have a look at the biopic for him when I've found out. |
