Does this involve a play on "in vein/in vain"?

Is it a crossword clue? Or something vaguely similar?

Would finding a suitable synonym for each word in the puzzle statement assist in solving?

Is it too much to hope that this is a newspaper headline? if not did you read the puzzle statment somewhere? Heard someone saying this? Is this an example of business speak gone mad?

Do you use this phrase or a variation of it in some of your speaking engagements?

Re the puzzle title.. Was the puzzle a question relating to when something happened? the phrase itself? or the context in which it was used?

Was this on the puzzles page of the paper?

The animals: Bacteria? Viruses? Single-celled organisms? Amphibians? Reptiles? Birds? Fish? Ninjas? Pirates? Ninja-pirate-zombies?

Is the regret being felt by the animals? Are there actual biological veins being probed? If so, blood vessels? If not, veins of ore?

The question in the Times was what do these four words have in common - Regretfully, probing, intravenous knowledge? I spotted that they made a pseudo-sentence so posted it for your enjoyment.

Your next challenge is to think of more words with hidden birds. You can start whenever...

My challenge is to construct a third puzzle involving egrets.

eternally grateful for excellent puzzle title. Must admit I was a bit gullible not to have twigged this brain wrenching poser sooner.
Hope the Times don't start huffing and puffing and in a fit of bitterness accuse you of "stealing" their puzzle.

p.s aren't these puns just fowl.
