Lynne & Woodworm, I imagine that neither of you know him but I won't spoil the fun quite yet ;-) but I will say that the name "Fish" is his screen name for the role in a series that he played in. His real name is something quite different. If you can't identify him then I will do the honorable thing :-) |

******************************* SPOILER ********************************* Puzzle statement: “They still do it to fish” This puzzle was inspired by Lynne’s puzzle statement, “they did it to fish, too”. As Lynne pointed out I should have used a capital “F” for “Fish” because it is the name of character in an old sitcom series called “Barney Miller” (still a favourite of mine). Abe Vigoda played Detective Phil Fish (1975-1977) and in the episodes was usually referred to as “Fish”. What they are still doing to Fish (Vigoda) is assuming that he is dead! This is bordering on urban legend... Wikipedia Fish is Still Alive |

I only got to watch Barney Miller because I worked several years of Night Duty in the 1980's when it was showing around 1.00am. I was able to sit and watch an episode every night over a period of many weeks. I don't believe that the show was ever on before or after that in the UK ever again - although I wait to be corrected on that assumption! I used to like Steve Landesburgh as Dietrich with his dry comments and also Jack Soo as Nick Yemana, who sadly, is very much dead and gone. Actually I wonder just how many of the cast are still alive seeing that the series commenced over 30 years ago!? The first two series have been released on DVD after much lobbying and I am the proud owner of both :-) |

Let's see, my wife and daughter recently saw Hal Lindon performing in Little Shop of Horrors on stage (apparently he's actually quite an accomplished clarinet player), so he's still around. I think Landesberg was my favorite, though, especially in the episode where they were testing out a lie detector... |
