John desperately wanted it to happen, and when year after year it didn't, he was devastated. But when it finally did happen, he wasn't happy at all. In fact, he was angry. Could be a quick one. |

Is John h/a/m? Are all the "it"s the same? Are all the "he"s John? Relevant for how many years it didn't happen? Did something change between when he wanted it to happen and when it did happen? Something to do with John? To do with "it"? Was he angry with a particular person? Did he lose out in some way from it happening? Was he angry because of when it happened? Because it happnee at all and he no longer wanted it to? Because of how it happened? Because it happening was not as desirable as he had thought? |

Is John h/a/m? Yes. Are all the "it"s the same? Yes. Are all the "he"s John? Yes. Relevant for how many years it didn't happen? Noish. Did something change between when he wanted it to happen and when it did happen? Yesish. Something to do with John? Yes. To do with "it"? Yes. Was he angry with a particular person? Yes, mostly. Did he lose out in some way from it happening? Yes. Was he angry because of when it happened? Yope. Because it happened at all and he no longer wanted it to? Yope. Because of how it happened? This one mostly. Because it happening was not as desirable as he had thought? And this one too. |

True story? I made this one up, but it certainly could happen in real life and probably has on some occasion. Is John famous? If so, is he alive? Irrel. to rest. |

Something similar? Not at all. And the crime part is really a "Noish." The puzzle has nothing to do with what one would ordinarily consider a crime. |

HERESY AGAINST THE HOLY CHURCH! Living his life a sinfree man? It isn't as broad or subtle as either of these. There's some specific thing John wants to have happen, and when he does, he's angry about it. |

Is the noish crime some crazy law? Like how it's illegal to ride an ugly horse down the street in Wilbur, Washington? And that's why it was a crime but wouldn't ordinarily be considered one? Or am I on the wrong track entirely? |

Is the noish crime some crazy law? It's not really crazy, just something that might still be a crime in some jurisdictions that have outdated laws still on the books. Like how it's illegal to ride an ugly horse down the street in Wilbur, Washington? Nothing that crazy. And that's why it was a crime but wouldn't ordinarily be considered one? This is something that used to be a crime pretty much everywhere, but is probably only a crime in a few places today. Or am I on the wrong track entirely? No, but be very careful not to sidetracked with this thread. Go back and think about the original problem statement and try to work from there. |

joe and wife tying to concieve for years without success? wife has an affair and falls pregnant? joe is angry because he wanted his wife to fall pregnant but not with another man? I don't know how you pulled all of that out of thin air, but that's exactly right! Which means it's time for a... ********************SPOILER********************** The "thing" John desperately wanted to have happen was for his wife Linda to get pregnant. After years of trying unsuccessfully to have a baby, John and Linda went to a fertility doctor, who discovered that John had a sperm count so low his chances of fathering a child were virtually nil. So when Linda finally did become pregnant, John was angry because he knew it couldn't possibly be his baby. And for anyone who's wondering, the "noish" crime I mentioned a few posts ago is adultery. Still a criminal offence in some U.S. states, apparently. Thanks, everybody, for playing! And CONGRATULATIONS, Senorina_illuminata, for one REALLY lucky guess! Honestly, I have no idea how you did that. |

Yeah. When will people learn that there's nothing wrong with extramarital sex? |
