They must have realised it, but apparently they decided to ignore it.

This might also go quite fast.

Assuming that the answer to Kaygee's first question is yes:
Is "it" something material? a concept? Is "it" good? Bad?

Kaygee:
The realised "it" = the ignored "it"? Yes.

Question from the title, can "it" be counted? No... money? ...but this is involved in some way.

Smartyllama:
Is "it" something material? a concept? This. Is "it" good? Bad? Please define a universal scale of moral values.

Did something go wrong because they ignored the problem? Was it fatal? Cost money?

Was the problem physical? Mental? Moral? A lack of something?

Could they have solved the problem by discussion? Purchasing something? Building something? Were they lazy? Did they offend someone? Did they forget something?

Did something go wrong because they ignored the problem? No. Was it fatal? Cost money? So no to these.

Was the problem physical? No. Mental? Yes-ish. Moral? No. A lack of something? Let's say no, to keep things simpler.

Could they have solved the problem by discussion? Yes. Purchasing something? No. Building something? No. Were they lazy? No. Did they offend someone? No. Did they forget something? No.

Some general questions about the puzzle have not been asked yet and might help.

Sorry for the long delay, been away on a conference.

Is this early twentieth century? No.
Is something being performed live? No.
Would this problem exist if there were 5 members? 7? 8? Agh, tough one. The puzzle is based on a real event and in the real event six people were involved. In principle it would be possible with any number of people, but it couldn't be ANY six people, either.
Was there a problem with script? Yope.
Was a typo made, but they decided it made sense and was kind of funny, so they kept it? No, but not one million miles from the right forest.

Did one of their sketches have a potential problem Yes. that was changed before airing it? Not changed and aired anyway? The puzzle is based on a conjecture of mine, so the correct answer would be "Don't know". In my conjecture, however, they aired it without changing it.

Is the problem related to some kind of incongruity? Was there an invalid premise?

Was the skit topical in nature? Did real-life events change such that a major or minor premise was no longer valid?

Is problem contained within the dialog and story encapsulated in the skit? Or does it relate to considerations and elements outside of the script but related to the performance of the skit (real-world business considerations)?

Money is involved in some way, correct? Is it related to the real-world business considerations of Monty Python? Or to elements within the script?

Did the skit contain a logical error? an error in the continuity? (i.e. it refered to a previous skit, but in a wrong way)

Is the sketch in question form the TV series or does it appear in one of their films?

Sundowner:
Is the error in some fact mentioned or used in the skit? No. (i.e. the skit refered to some real fact or event, but in a wrong way, or the fact was wrong)
Did the skit contain a logical error? Yes. an error in the continuity? No. (i.e. it refered to a previous skit, but in a wrong way)
Did a relevant fact change, or a relevant event happen between the day the skit was skripted or filmed and the day it was aired? No.
Prices relevant? Yes.
Currencies? if so: British currency? shillings? Currencies are irrelevant.
Coins? Bank notes? And so are these.

Peter365:
Is the sketch in question form the TV series or does it appear in one of their films? From the TV series.

I should say that determining the skit will probably bring you immediately to the solution. However, I will not allow any LTPF list of Monty Python skits -- that would spoil half of the fun. Let's see how well you remember the TV show :-) I'm sure you will not disappoint me.

Ok it's a shop but not the Pet shop that sold the Norwegian Blue, the cheese shop or the shop selling cigarettes to the hungarian gentleman.

What about the lingerie shop that the bank robber attempts to hold up?

What about the lingerie shop that the bank robber attempts to hold up? Oh, I don't know that one. So no :-)

Is it a shop that sells food? Beverages? Non-food objects? A service? Information? Something verbal (e.g. a title, an opinion, a nickname, a story)?

Does the shop sell nothing? Sell something that people already have access to (e.g. air)?

Prices are relevant, so is the error mathematical? Is the error related to ranks of values (what I mean by this is whether there is something priced higher than something it is obviously worth less than)? Are two of something cheaper than one of the same thing?

I see that there's a Monty Python skit about a bed shop where a couple tries to buy a mattress. I haven't seen it. Is that the one?

You're saying that there's a mathematical error in the price of one of the mattresses? In the price of buying multiple mattresses? Did they do some silly math that resulted in an obscure pricing scheme? Like price per hour of sleeping? Or price per number of people on the mattress?

You're saying that there's a mathematical error in the price of one of the mattresses? Yope. In the price of buying multiple mattresses? Did they do some silly math that resulted in an obscure pricing scheme? That's for sure, but there's more to it. Like price per hour of sleeping? Or price per number of people on the mattress? Nothing of this kind. Did you watch the skit?

Is the error/misunderstanding/misconception around "ten times the amount" and "ten times higher than the amount" (ie. eleven times the amount)?

And I would have bet that this puzzle is about the Argument Clinic ..

Ok, I finally got a chance to watch it.

So person A always multiplies numbers by 10. So if he means 8, he says 80.

Person B always divides numbers by 3. So if he means 6, he says 2.

However, person A explains person B to the couple. But he said that to understand person B, you have to multiply what B says "by 3" when what he should have said was "by 30"

Is this the error you speak of?

Is this the error you speak of? Spot on. I'm sure they recognised the problem, but decided to ignore it to keep the skit fluid.

Thanks for playing!
