They must have realised it, but apparently they decided to ignore it. This might also go quite fast. |

Let's say no, to keep things simpler. Could they have solved the problem by discussion? Yes. Purchasing something? No. Building something? No. Were they lazy? No. Did they offend someone? No. Did they forget something? No. Some general questions about the puzzle have not been asked yet and might help. |

Sorry for the long delay, been away on a conference. Is this early twentieth century? No. Is something being performed live? No. Would this problem exist if there were 5 members? 7? 8? Agh, tough one. The puzzle is based on a real event and in the real event six people were involved. In principle it would be possible with any number of people, but it couldn't be ANY six people, either. Was there a problem with script? Yope. Was a typo made, but they decided it made sense and was kind of funny, so they kept it? No, but not one million miles from the right forest. |

Not changed and aired anyway? The puzzle is based on a conjecture of mine, so the correct answer would be "Don't know". In my conjecture, however, they aired it without changing it. |

Peter365: Is the sketch in question form the TV series or does it appear in one of their films? From the TV series. I should say that determining the skit will probably bring you immediately to the solution. However, I will not allow any LTPF list of Monty Python skits -- that would spoil half of the fun. I'm going on vacation until the end of the month, but feel free to leave questions. I'll answer them as soon as I'm back. |

Is it a shop that sells food? Beverages? Non-food objects? A service? Information? Something verbal (e.g. a title, an opinion, a nickname, a story)? Does the shop sell nothing? Sell something that people already have access to (e.g. air)? Prices are relevant, so is the error mathematical? Is the error related to ranks of values (what I mean by this is whether there is something priced higher than something it is obviously worth less than)? Are two of something cheaper than one of the same thing? |

Sell something that people already have access to (e.g. air)? No. Prices are relevant, so is the error mathematical? Yes. Is the error related to ranks of values (what I mean by this is whether there is something priced higher than something it is obviously worth less than)? Are two of something cheaper than one of the same thing? No to rest. |

Where would the items be most likely to be found? Kitchen? Dining room? Living/Family Room? Bathroom? Bedroom? Office? Outdoors? In a public place? In a closet/dresser? On a person? |

I see that there's a Monty Python skit about a bed shop where a couple tries to buy a mattress. I haven't seen it. Is that the one? You're saying that there's a mathematical error in the price of one of the mattresses? In the price of buying multiple mattresses? Did they do some silly math that resulted in an obscure pricing scheme? Like price per hour of sleeping? Or price per number of people on the mattress? |

You're saying that there's a mathematical error in the price of one of the mattresses? Yope. In the price of buying multiple mattresses? Did they do some silly math that resulted in an obscure pricing scheme? That's for sure, but there's more to it. Like price per hour of sleeping? Or price per number of people on the mattress? Nothing of this kind. Did you watch the skit? |

Is the error/misunderstanding/misconception around "ten times the amount" and "ten times higher than the amount" (ie. eleven times the amount)? And I would have bet that this puzzle is about the Argument Clinic .. |

Ok, I finally got a chance to watch it. So person A always multiplies numbers by 10. So if he means 8, he says 80. Person B always divides numbers by 3. So if he means 6, he says 2. However, person A explains person B to the couple. But he said that to understand person B, you have to multiply what B says "by 3" when what he should have said was "by 30" Is this the error you speak of? |

I'm sure they recognised the problem, but decided to ignore it to keep the skit fluid. Thanks for playing! |
