If he had produced a King instead of an Ace he would have lived. |

Was his death directly related to his producing an Ace? Ace = 1, King = 13; is this the weight (I am not a card player, so don't know what 'normal' rankings mean)? Did he draw a card knowing fully well that the outcome will affect his chances of living? Did he draw one card from a pack of 52? If no, then how many cards were there in the pack? |

Was he cheating at the game? Did he produce an Ace when somebody else already had that specific one? Was he killed in the sense that he ceased to breathe and have brain function? Or is this another sense of killed, like when a game piece is "killed" by being taken out of the game? Just went back and saw you said this was not a game for him. Did he know his life was going to be on the line in this card game? Was it not a game for him because he knew there were more serious stakes? Was he actually taking part in the game as a player? Perhaps as a dealer? Or was he not taking part in the game at all? |

Can we call the person who was killed Al? I'll assume we can. Was Al's death a homicide? A murder? A result of a medical anomaly from natural sources (heart attack, stroke, seizure, etc.)? An accident? A legal execution? Did Al drown? Get shot? Suffer blunt force trauma from a weapon? Hit the ground at a speed sufficient to cause death? Suffocate? Was Al poisoned? Decapitated? Cut? Impaled? Crushed? Thrown in the path of a moving trolley? Roundhouse kicked in the face? Was the relevant card game played at a casino? At a business? In a residence? Narcotics, illegal gambling, or prostitution involved? |

Why was he sentenced for manufacturing an Ace: At the time at the place it was not allowed at all to produce Aces? Because it happened in England in the 19th? He did not have a licence to do so? His Ace had a particular forbidden feature? There was some copyright issue? Would he have lived if he had produced a: 2? 3? ... 10? Jack? Queen? Joker? Tarot Card? a dice? |

Only the Ace as a whole is relevant? Would he have died if the Ace had no design on the back? Did the Ace have a design on the back? Is the suit relevant? (can't believe I forgot to ask this one!) Iff so: was it an Ace of spades? Would he have died if he produced an Ace of a different suit? Having produced the Ace, he was deemed as having committed a crime? and it was for this crime that he was executed? |

So in England in the 19th it was prohibited to manufacture Aces? Was even the use of Aces prohibited? If so, was it because the Ace was invented or introduced in another country? because it was associated with illegal gambling? If there is more I think that I will have to look on Wikipedia. |

* * * SPOILER * * * Tobasi, So in England in the 19th C it was prohibited to manufacture Aces? Was even the use of Aces prohibited? YES/NO In England in 1800 the manufacture of playing cards was allowed except for the Ace of Spades. Only His Majesty’s Customs and Excise could produce this card and it was sold to raise tax revenue. Richard Harding was hanged in 1805 for breaking the law by making and selling Aces of Spades. More details here: http://www.cardboardillusions.com/card_ace_of_spades.php This is one reason why the Ace of Spades is associated with death. |
