Though it had nothing to do with skyrocketing prices, Russel blamed the oil industry for his panic attack. |

Was the misconception based on... -Nausea/vomiting? -Mood swings? -Weight gain? -Missed/late period? -Another physical symptom associated with pregnancy? -Something she (or someone else) said (possibly related to the oil industry?) that he misheard or misunderstood? -A deliberate lie on her part? -A deliberate lie on someone else's part? Oookay, so he does (mistakenly) believe she's pregnant, right? And he is basing this on some kind of evidence? Something in her behavior? You already said it wasn't based on a pregnancy test or anything he believed to be a pregnancy test, and now you've ruled out physical symptoms and verbal suggestions. Did she maybe start wanting to settle down or "nest?" Did he have unprotected sex with her and/or discover that some manner of birth control had failed and start flipping out just in case she got pregnant? I'm running out of reasons people mistakenly believe someone is pregnant, here. Is this a useful thing to be trying to find out? |

You already said it wasn't based on a pregnancy test or anything he believed to be a pregnancy test, and now you've ruled out physical symptoms and verbal suggestions. Yep. Did she maybe start wanting to settle down or "nest?" Ha, your wording is actually kind of ironic. No, but explore why he might think she's doing this. Did he have unprotected sex with her and/or discover that some manner of birth control had failed and start flipping out just in case she got pregnant? No. I'm running out of reasons people mistakenly believe someone is pregnant, here. Is this a useful thing to be trying to find out? Yes indeed. Think of more stereotypical 'signs' men use to discover women are pregnant, like on tv. I want this one solved, if you didn't notice. |

Did she set up a room in a way that looked like a baby's room? Learn a bunch of lullabies? Read baby books? Start saving money for what he thought was a college fund? Make baby clothes/blankets? Kalira (Kalira) She seemed to be making clothing that was small in size? Was she knitting? Was this clothing intended for use by non-humans? By any chance, was it intended for penguins? Yes, yes, yes and yes! **************SPOILER Russel returns home and finds that his new girlfriend, who has just moved in and hasn't even met the parents yet, is knitting tiny sweaters. He assumes that they are for a child in the making, starts thinking about finances and wedding rings, and goes ahead and panics. His girl eventually finds him in a corner in the fetal position, and explains she was simply doing volunteer work for one of the many groups who knits clothing for penguins (here's one: http://www.seattlepi.com/local/pengww.shtml ). After oil spills, the poor little birds try to preen themselves and end up swallowing poisons. The sweaters keep them warm and stop them from preening until they can be cleaned. |
