By saying its not a situation, I mean there is no need for another party to be present for this terminology to make Sam appear to be racist - I hope that is not confusing. It doesn't matter whether he is in the presence of a white a person, alone in his bedroom, in a group of anti-white people, etc Recap: Sam felt that a certain term was sexist, and so he decided against using it. But the term Sam choose instead, could just as easily be considered a racist term. The question is why. | ||

I will tell you that I came up with the idea for this puzzle after seeing this term on someone's packing list, and a google search reveals many results for the term. I would still consider it slang though Would the shirt have to be white for this to work? ****Spoiler**** Yes he called it a white beater. The slang term "wife beater" originated in the early 90s with the show cops - when they went on domestic dispute calls the man involved would almost always come out wearing a white undershirt, so the shirt took on the name "wife beater." Recently I saw someone's packing list and they had written that they need to pack "white beaters." Changing the term from its sexist connotation (beating your wife) to a racist one (beating whites). Google reveals that its becoming more common to now call these white beaters and black beaters (when black). But I doubt you'll see them called Asian or Hispanic beaters, so this puzzle wouldn't work with all races. |
