Nelisa's desire to improve her appearance led her into a situation that would not be not embarrassing for most people but was very embarrassing for her. How come? |

Nelisa - H/A/F? Did she do (or was she going to do) a particular thing to improve her appearance? If so, was it... ...buying new clothes? accessories? ...getting a haircut? manicure? pedicure? ...cosmetic surgery? ...seeking advice? from a friend? relative? professional? (I read an article in The Washington Post a few weeks ago about how some tennagers are hiring image consultants to improve their appearance.) You said "not be not embarrassing" - was the double negative a mistake? |

Nelisa = H/A/F? Appearance = physical? Or nonphysical (ex. reputation or social circle)? |

Was she attempting to improve one particular aspect of her appearance (hair, face, nails, body, etc.) or did she just want to look better overall? |

Did she get her hair dyed? highlighted? cut/trimmed? styled? curled? straightened? moisturized? If any of these, did she do it herself? Or go to a beauty parlor/hairdresser? Did she buy a new hair product? gel? shampoo? conditioner? If so, did she use it? Did she comb or part her hair in a new or unusual way? Did she make a decision as to whether to have bangs? |

Hairspray? Did she intend to use something in her hair that isn't normally considered a hair product, such as egg whites or lemon juice? Did she use a hair product that she didn't actually buy? Is this a fairly common method of improving the appearance of one's hair? So it's the actual purchase/obtaining of the hair product that is embarassing? Does the reason it was embarassing have anything to do with what else she was buying? Who she was getting it from? Her hair color/style? Her personality? Previous events we need to figure out? Also, I know you don't usually ask questions about other people's puzzles, but blackmagic has a puzzle about you! You should check it out. |

Did she want to make her hair shinier? softer? thicker? less dandruffy? darker? lighter? straighter? curlier? less frizzy? more volume? less split ends? How far back does the relevant backstory go... minutes? hours? days? weeks? months? years? Was there a side effect to the substance she used? Was the situation she was in similar to a previous situation she had been in? |

Was the simple act of buying the stuff she used in her hair embarrassing? Buying it in combination with something else? Was she embarrassed while in the shop in which she bought the stuff she used in her hair? The stuff she used in her hair is it normally considered: food? drink? cleaner? used in DIY? |

Milk? Was she pregnant? Nursing? When she bought the two things together, did it seem as though she would be doing something dirty? Embarassingly personal? Related to specifically female issues? Illicit? |

Is there a religious reason this might be embarassing? (i.e. Mormon's/Muslims aren't supposed to imbibe alcohol). Is this woman also our Felicia Nimue who has once told us that she doesn't care for alcohol (not sweet enough, generally)? And one of her friends caught her? And was promptly teased for crossing over to the dark side? |

But I did read someplace that beer makes your hair shiny, so I decided to try it. I went to a liquor store &--of course--ran into that very student. You bet that I did not say it was for my hair! I just said, "Well, as you see, I've changed my mind about booze "(although, of course, I had not). Please check out my new puzzle! |

Ah! But did it work? And does it only work for beer or will any alcohol do? It'd be nice to have a use for those half-empty bottles of wine my husband and I can't seem to finish by ourselves. |
